my '94 2L 16v has an issue with power surges, normally in first or second gear, as soon as you pull away or change up the power dies and then it feels like there is some sort of blockage, you can put the pedal to the floor and itll accelerate slowly then suddenly take off. itll also sometimes not take off and just pull really slowly in gear...

any ideas please, i know its very general but any ideas at all...

ok, bit stranger, when driving in whatever gear the power just goes and the revs slowly drop, no matter how much you press the accelerator, a few seconds later it seems to 'catch' and the revs shoot back up, it does this with a rough idle for a few minutes then goes back to normal for about ten minutes...then does it agian.

got to be some ideas please!

I usually start by checking if no vacuem leaks around.  After that, if non present I try to find at what point it actually started going bad.
like usually with me, I fix one thing, and break another.  Like fan speed switch is fixed and then I broke heater cable.  etc....

also clean the idle control valve out and check the pipes from that valve for cracks

clean the valve first ... easier and less mess ... and as told by avant80@2.6 inspect the hoses ... take a look from the inside of the hoses .... oil vapor will brake down rubber hoses from the inside and cause vacum leaks ( read rough running, idle ) ... do that first and let us know how goes it  ... good luck

thanks for the advice, i replaced the idle vale last month so it may be related, I also drained some of the oil out as it appeared to have a bit much in it, now its mentioned i take it excess oil could cause the damage...

more woes soon...probably...

it seems to be fixed by running some cloth through the idle valve, although it seemed to have got a lot of gunge in it from one month of use, suppose that serves me right for using one out of a vauxhall..

and not the car idles at 900rpm, not 1k, ho hum. thanks for all the help, im sure ill manage to break it again soon...
