Wheel alignment how to
Example of vehicle data sticker
At the start of MY 98, PR numbers were introduced to facilitate running gear/spring/shock absorber assignment. ‒ - A - indicates PR no. for front axle ‒ - B - indicates PR no. for rear axle The running gear version installed in the vehicle can be seen from the corresponding PR number on the vehicle data sticker. ‒ - Arrow - indicates PR no. for running gear versions In this example, the vehicle is fitted with standard running gear 1BA -arrow-. The vehicle data sticker can be found in the spare wheel well at the rear of the vehicle and in the Service booklet. 1BA = Standard running gear 1BB = Heavy-duty running gear (approx. 20 mm higher) 1BC = Special-purpose vehicles 1BD =Sports running gear (Audi S4) RS4 = Sports running gear (RS4) 1BE = Sports running gear 1BV = Sports running gear (quattro GmbH) 1BQ = Sports running gear (South Africa) 1BT = Heavy-duty running gear (approx. 7 mm higher) 1BP = Heavy-duty running gear (trim position as for 1BA, however with limited bump travel) Vehicles with special running gear -1BC- have the same wheel alignment specifications as the standard running gear -1BA-. ● Sensors properly attached and adjusted; heed manufacturer's operating instructions ● Tread depth on one axle must not differ by more than 2 mm ● Specified tyre inflation pressure ● When performing wheel alignment, make sure neither sliding base nor turntable is on end stop ● Vehicle kerb weight 1) 1) Kerb weight refers to weight of vehicle ready for operation (fuel tank and windscreen/headlight washer system fluid reservoir full, spare wheel, vehicle tool kit, jack) without driver. Spare wheel, vehicle tool kit and jack must be in their specified positions. ● Vehicle properly aligned, bounced several times and allowed to settle ● Check suspension, steering and steering linkage for impermissible play and damage and service if necessary ● Perform wheel runout compensation The permissible wheel runout may already cause the toe-in tolerance to be exceeded. The toe-in can then not be set correctly without performing wheel runout compensation. Wheel alignment must be performed: In the event of running problems Following accident damage If axle components have been removed If one-sided tyre wear is found ill add data its a long process |
