Top speed of chipped A6 2.7T ?

Even though I'm old enough to know better, I put a GIAC chip in my 2003 A6 2.7T MT6 a couple months ago and finally opened it up last week on a straight stretch. The speedometer just touched 147 mph before I had to slow up. No other mods except a K&N air filter, Bailey diverters, and a Samco TBB. Also running 89 octanegas(which I usually do) because I had not been planning a speed run. I was watching the speedo and the cars I was overtaking and never looked at the tach to see how close to redline I was. The speedo was also bouncing a little, swinging in 3-5 mph increments as it crept higher.

Sometime ago I read in this forum that with factory gearing the car should go 150-160. Any other experiences out there?

i once got my moms saab 9-3 to go 140 without a big problem

I have a standard 2000 A6 2.7T tip. (230hp) Here in England my manual states thethe top speed of my car at 240kmh and 243kmh for the manual version. Thatsover 150mph i think. My gearing will certainly allow thatkind of speed easily. at 100mph I'm doing 3000rpm.

With a GIAC X chip you should be at 255MPH

I have A GIAC chip in my S8 4.2 and the guys at VAST said they gave me the same speed limit that they give the S4 guys 255. They said you will never hit much over 200 though. I saw a video of A guy in Germany with a built 475 WHP VAST car on the autobahn and he hit just over 200MPH so we know it is at least 200

Thanks for the feedback. Especially Fallout, whose Mom's go-to-grocery Saab almost beats me.

And Scrog,your gearing must be different because at 80mph I'm turning 3200 in 6th gear. Theoretically, if I double the rpm (to the red line) then I'd be going 160. To do over 200mph - which my tires could not handle anyway - I'd have to be turning almost 8000rpm which would be a little tough on the engine. I don't think the extra hp from the chip is going to get around the gearing, which limits the top end.

Maybe I'll try again this summer after a tuneup, a new timing chain, with 91octane gas, on a warm night.

i was wondering the same too. mine has an tiptronic tranny. i bought an intake K&N filter and i want a chip. what whould that give me hp wise on 91 or 93?
