Cut the damn band man. I did when I replaced it and it had no issues. It pretty muchi s held in my the gas tank anyway.

Pretty sure you've got a 12v. If you can get a multimeter. Start the cat and measure the voltage from the alt post to the alt chassis. If that reads 14+v you have a wiring issue, it it reads lower...
