ipod adapter for MMI

mswain -> ipod adapter for MMI (1/4/2007 1:32:27 PM)

Does anyone know if there is an ipod adapter that can be installed in a Q7 and show up on your MMI?
I understand that the current audi position is that the Q7 is excluded from having an ipod adapter, but I have heard of people having it in there Q7.
I called my dealership and they say that audi is working on an ipod adapter for all MMI audis and that it will available in early 2007. Anyone know anything more?

There is an iPod adapter for the Q7.  It will work only on cars built after 11/6/06 but there will be a retrofit kit for cars built before that date as well(no details on release dates).  If you get this kit(Audi Music Interface)- it wall come with an iPod cable which gives full integration into the MMI(song display, control etc).  You can also hook any type of MP3 player to it if you get the generic cable(no display however).  Pretty slick system.  My dealer did not know much about it and I was fortunate to figure it out before the order was placed so we will be getting the AMI as a factory option.

So how do you get this kit? the dealership? How did you find out about this? Is there somewhere I can read about it?

The dealer has the kit.  Your dealer may or may not be aware of it.  When I went to parts they just told me about the cables($55-$65 each) and I got excited thinking it was going to be a "cheap" solution.  Little did I know that was in addition to the $290 for the AMI kit.  I don't know what the dealer will charge to install it after the fact either.  Again, this is only for cars built after 11/6/2006.  There will be a kit for earlier cars but there is no release date yet.  You can read about the AMI at: http://www.audiusa.com/audi/us/en2/experience/technology/Audi_Music_Interface/NYC_Information.html

I got my Q7 on February, but did not know the Audi Music Interface for MMI was an option, my Q7 was produced after 11/06/06, my dealer told me that it was produced on the first week of december 06, so how do I get this option installed now, do I have to wait for the retrofit kit, or since my car might already be ready for iPod what do I have to do to get the Audi Music Interface installed in my car after production, now that I have it?

Bump.
Do you know if the AMI now generally available in the US for MMI-based cars?

Im assuming that the iPhone will work as a bluetooth phone handsfree phone and an ipod with MMI support.
Im hoping anyway. Maybe thats why they are taking so long to release the retrofit kit...

HI,

I bought a Q7 today and finding that my Microsoft Zune player cannot interface well with MMI. Is there a way I can make zune display the contents on the MMI ?

Thanks

actually, at my local dealer in Oman, they installed a product that works seemlessly with the MMI, it is the gateway 500, it is awesome, it cost me around 800US to install though, not sure about the prices in the US. dension.com

Not sure about the 07 models but I just picked up my 08 3.6 (Premium/Convenience pkg's). It had the MMI audi interface under the center armrest installed as standard equipment. All I had to do was request the iPod specific MMI interface cable, which is free from the dealer. My 5th Gen iPod works seamlessly with the MMI, on the MMI screen I can scroll through the menus as if I was looking at my iPod screen. Great integration, finally.  [:D]
