2.7 t wheel offset

Hi,
I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T and I am looking at the option of changing the 16" wheels and replace them by aftermarket 17" Audi rims.
I ran into some problems: it seems that it's quite difficult to find rims that would fit that particular model. The rims I currently have have an offset of 45mm while the rims I am looking at have 35 mm offset.
Is that a problem? Can I put rims with 35 mm offset? Is there maybe spacers that I would need to add?
Thank you in advance fro your help.

You never mentioned the width of the current and new wheels. Strictly on the matter of offsets.....the 35mm offset would cause you wheels to protrude past the fender lips. It would'nt be a matter of adding spacers. It would be a matter of removing material from the wheel mounting hub. Hope that helped.

The Audi's I've had over the years have had both backspacings. The 10mm difference is about 4/10's of an inch -- not a ton. If your stock rims don't come out flush to the fender lips, you just might want to try the 35mm's!:)

Thanks guys for your help. Just to answer your question fbsideoiler427, the stock rims are 7" and the new ones are 8".

I will then get those 18" with 35 mm offset... Thanks for your help. I will post a new picture when I will have the new rims installed

You may have another issue.....clearance of the brake system inside the rim. I think the 2.7 has a bigger brakes than the 2.8.

Yes the brakes will be an issue. I bought my rims from Tire Rack they are 18" Rims with 245/40/18 tires. I cot a call from Tire rack telling me they would not fit. I told them to ship them and let me worry about it.

I at first had to run 3mm spacers in the front to clear the suspension. Then one day I was rotating my tires and noticed that the suspension buckle had about 5+mm of casting "junk" on them. A sort of rib that protruded out from the actual surface. I busted out my die grinder and "cleaned" the buckle up real nice. Then re-painted it black.

The tires fit fine now. They Were Moda Radius rims 18x8 with a +35mm offset.

Good luck!
