Default Transmission Issues.. Other Issues

I bought a 1998 Audi A6 2.8L at around 98,500 miles for $7,000. The blower for the A/C & Heater did not work and about a month after driving it, the automatic transmission started to rev itself between shifts from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th. (The problem is almost identical to the problem " mde" is having in previous post, "transmission shifting question.") Soon after, the engine quit while I was cruising around 40 mph. I was able to start the engine again on the side of the road, but now, it made a very annoying noise (a high pitched noise a motorcycle would make) and the noise gets louder as the rpm gets higher.

I took the car intothe shop for a complete makeover. Irequested for the heater to be fixed and the noiseto be looked at. The shop fixed the heater, thought the noise was fromthe pulley and the timing belt, which they replaced for a new one and the noise was still there. They did not even want to deal with the transmission andrecommended I take it into the dealer.

Anyone experience the same problem or heard of it??Is it the tranny? Is it worth the money to fix it this late in the game?
