Default 4000 quattro question????

so i just bought an 85 4000 quattro. and im wondering how it is that i figure out if the quattro is actually working. i know where the switch on the dash is but nuthing lights up as i switch it and im not sure what is on or off.

PLEASE HELP

the AWD sustem is permement, the switches are for locking the difs. center and rear if I am corect.

ok, ya i read a little about that and i wasent sure if thats all it meant. but now i understand. but im still woundering how i will know that the diff.s are locked.

whell .... make a tight turn ... try to Drive in a really small circle as small as you possibly can ... if you get wheel hop -> difs are locked in
