Hi folks, it's getting close to getting an other Audi again. I found a quatro of 86, what should I look for, what can I expect. I there a way to pull the codes and see what the car thinks of him self It stats rusting in some minor spots. How to stop that properly.
Is there a simple way to check the turbo?
You know all the relevant questions, I never had this model before, and I drove an Audi 80 diesel before in Europe.
Thanks and I would appreciate a fast reply, I don't want to loose this one. It's looking too good

I am not sure if you can pull any codes off of '86. I have 1991 1CQ, once I turn off the ignition the ECU has no memory for storing codes. The California models store codes into memory. There are a lot of problems to look for, mainly electrical. Radiator, heater core, Torsen differential, etc. just to name a few. Parts cost a vast fortune even if you do the work yourself. Door handles is another unpleasant experience with older models especially if you live in a cold climate, they freeze and break. Had that happen 3 times on my 4K.
We bought it now we have to make it as close to new as possible, so expect lots of questions. We live 140 km out of town and 4 hours away from the nearest dealer, so getting info/parts will be fun. We found 2 5000 Audi's at a wrecker, so if you need parts give a yell and I'll have a look there. We live in S.E. Alberta 50 km from Saskatchewan and 30 km from the US border.
