View Full Version : Pics of your rims
haudi_yall 01-18-2007, 02:50 AM I just picked up my first Audi - an '02 A6 3.0 Quattro. I'd like to put a bit larger wheels on there that give it a more aggressive feel and look, without looking like overkill. I'm thinking 17" rims. How wide should I go to get what I'm looking for? Any suggestions on a nice wheel that retains the Audi look? If you send me a pic let me know the brand and size of your rims. Thanks!
SouthboroAudiGuy 01-18-2007, 09:28 AM Go light and strong. The BBS RKs I run (17x8) are both, but I believe they're out of production and thus very hard to find. Other BBS wheels can also be counted on to be both light and strong.
Good luck.
haudi_yall 01-18-2007, 02:41 PM That's a great look on that car. What size tires did you go with?
privateinvestigator 01-18-2007, 03:51 PM I bought a 99 a6 a few months ago and when I got it, the person had put 18 inch chrome wheels with fake diamonds on the perimeter of the wheel. Not my style. Since I was on a budget, I bought the new B7 RS4 wheels off of ebay, and I was quite suprised with how nice they were. They were around $500 for all 4 and I got 18's so that I could still use the same size tire. The wheels balanced perfectly as well. They arent light weight or anything like that, but they look nice and get the job done.
railrunner 01-18-2007, 04:09 PM I got my 2003, 4.2 about two years ago. Still had the factory 17s on it. Looked fine but I went with 18, two piece TSWs cant remember the model right now but picture attached. I liked the look on the SL55 AMG and think the 5 split spoke look is great. Obviously it is becoming more popular as more and more rims are going to that style. Needs to be something you love. Go to TireRack.com and Discount Tire.com for ideas as well. I run Michelin Pilot Sport 255/40's on it and it looks elegant but capable. Another to consider is the RS4 five spoke rims on 18's. A buddy of mine has them on a 3.0 and they barely stick out from the wheel well, maybe .25 inch and it looks very aggressive.
See my pic link below.

cary12 01-20-2007, 02:33 AM Mine are 18 inch AZA's. I like them a lot and think the size is perfect.

haudi_yall 01-20-2007, 01:14 PM Wow thanks guys...those are all great pics. Thesplit spoke styleslook very nice on the A6. They look easier to clean than my old-style BBS deep dish 17s on my former Bimmer...those were very tedious to clean and I never looked forward to the project. I've seen that AZA style before on some websites but they look much better on the car. Decisions decisions. I'd prefer to pick up a used set so I don't have to shell out so much dough.
I'm still torn between 17 & 18 for my A6. They both look nice.
I also really like the look of the wide spokes on the BMW 6-series and wonder how they might look on the A6. I'd have to see it on another A6 before I bought them, but I'm not sure if I can even find them to fit on the Audi.
Any more good wheel pics anyone can post?
Thanks again
Gary
SouthboroAudiGuy 01-20-2007, 01:37 PM Gary,
Do some searching & surfing. You'll find tons of pics.
What size to go with depends, in part, where you live. If you live where the roads are in great shap, you can run with 18"s if you're willing to take a hit on ride quality. If you live where there are potholes and/or rough roads, you'll probably want to stick with 17's. Greater resistance to bending. This can be offset by buying really good, strong wheels, but there are also performance implications. Bigger wheels weigh more and bring the weight farther away from the wheel. This reduces performance and can adversely affect handing dynamics and increase wear on various components. The cheaper the wheel, the more this comes into play because cheaper wheels tend to be heavier. Strong and light is the answer, but it gets more expensive to balance these two competing goals as you go up in wheel size.
You may want to see if there is an Audi Get To Gether (check the regional forum here and on www.audiworld.com) near you. Great way to see a bunch of different wheels and chat with other people to get their impressions.
Good luck.
cary12 01-20-2007, 01:55 PM I agree. Try to get to a local Audi Club get together and get to know some of the members. If your not already a member of Audi Club of North America, it's a great way to get to know people. You also get really great discounts all over the place. Here is a link to the main website. You can find a local chapter through there.

I'm a member and I have got to know a lot of great guys and with a lot of knowledge. Good Luck!
A6onBlack 01-21-2007, 03:59 AM I have a 2000 4.2 with 19" DForged wheels and 245/35/19's. They ride really nice and because they are forged they won't bend easily. I am very happy with them. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c78/onebadbenz/IMG_0767.jpghttp://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c78/onebadbenz/IMG_0763.jpg
veso_ht 01-21-2007, 02:35 PM i got these on ebay. mine already had 18's when i bought it but they were very ugly so i replaced them with these:

don't really remember much about them but search on ebay and you'll get all the specs. These were replicas, not factory oirignals. The only thing is with 18's, the ride isn't as good since they were on 45 tires. But it looks great!
haudi_yall 01-21-2007, 04:14 PM Wow, based on what I see here the A6 looks great in lots of different wheel styles! (except for the kind with diamonds on the perimeter!)

diamonds? did u mean the rivets?
haudi_yall 01-21-2007, 06:50 PM Read the fourth post from the top. I could relate to what privateinvestigator was saying because I think too much bling would look out of place on an A6.
votblindub 01-22-2007, 02:03 AM oh, those! thats so ghey, a wheel holds tires not gems, we have rings and necklaces for that purpose
foorausfoora 01-22-2007, 02:11 AM A6onblack you've robbed your a6 of all its class

whats wrong with his car?
A6onBlack 01-22-2007, 06:59 PM Well, Foorausfoora we all have our own opinion of what looks cool and classy. I get a lot of compliments on my car. The guy who owns the local german auto shop loves it, and he sells used Audis from his shop. Throw a pic of your car on here, I would love to see what you consider classy. I do my best not to judge other peoples cars or styles. I only put pics of mine on here to give this guy a different option, not to get your opinion of whatI have done to it. But thank you very much for your opinion.

yea, i agree. i dont like chrome wheels personally, or bright ones in general, but its just my opinion. so if i say i dont like something, or i dont think its a good idea to do something, that doesnt make it right 100% of the time. i think that car looks great
Joeski 01-23-2007, 06:07 PM Here are the wheels I use in the summer months. I have Continental Contact Sport II tires on them, 235X19X8.5.
My ride is nice, but I watch the potholes!!!
