i just installed an intake kit i got off ebay for 40 bucks. it works/sounds great so far, but i have one concern. on the stock airbox there was a small separate tube that the air went to (AFTER going thru the filter) . i dont know where the tube leads to. the kit came with a mini cone filter so i just put that on the tube. the picture is attached. is this unsafe? what is this tube? is the cone filter good enough?

What you have is fine
What that old tube was your crankshaft ventilation, it directs unburned gases back into the motor to be burnt again. The miniature cone filter, or crankcase breather is okay to have, but ive heard people say it is not.

I dunno. I had an old Datsun and an older GTI and people would tell me NOT to remove PCV capability. It can affect the vacuum system on your car supposedly. Not sure how much but that can be a real pain... Think of TB boot with a hole in it.. not the same but still. I wouldnt do it personally.

so why dont you just hook the tube to the intake port instand of the filter?
