Default 1993 90 Central Locking woes

I recently fixed my central locking by installing a new (used) actuator pump. It seems to work fine UNTIL the trunk is opened. Today, It locked all my doors and locked my keys in it while it was running. I was not impressed. Sometimes, it stops working and makes a clicking sound until I unplug the cables and plug them back in. Really, really annoying. Any ideas out there? Thanks.
