Default Whistle while driving

I'm new to the forums, and a new Audi owner. I've done a brief search without locating a topic that sounded particularly promising. After I've driven my car for a bit to get the coolant / oil temps up to normal operating range, I've noticed a faint whistle type sound. It is more noticeable when I let off the gas. The noise becomes audible around 30 - 40 mph, and continues up to about 80. It does not seem directly related to engine speed, but rather with vehicle speed. As this is a new vehicle for me, I'm still trying to learn the sounds of the car. Could tires make this type of noise? Something from the transmission? Air turbulance moving over some part of the car?

Thanks for all your help!!

No ski rack on the car - no aftermarket at all for that matter. The only thing that concerns me is the fact the whistle is more audible when I let off the gas. I'm not certain if the whistle actually gets louder when I let off the gas or if it is simply more apparent due to the lack of engine noise.

def sounds like wind noise. check to see if the sun roof is fully closed. check the weatherstripping on all the doors to make sure it is sealing correctly.

Well, honestly it sounds like wind noise but since you here it when you let off the gas it could be something will the belts (which I doubt) or maybe the vacuum system. If you are worried enough take it in to a trusted shop and have them look at it. It will cost 100 but it maybe worth the peice of mind.

I'll check the weather stripping - if all checks out I'll run it by a shop. I've got a very small leak in the cooling system along with a replacement motor for the drivers seat lumbar support. Just bought the car 5 days ago so it's all stuff that will be fixed.

I have noticed a small whistling noise from the heating/ac fans when it is set to AUTO and it isn't blowing heat or A/C. Take a look at that first before you take it to the shop.
