Default 05 a6 4.2 starting problems

I am a fairly new owner of a 2005 A6 4.2. It only had 9,000 miles on it when I bought it 4 months ago. I am having a issue with starting the car. It is intermittent when it decides not to start the first time. I feel like an idiot when I go to leave and the car wont turn over. The audi dealer said that they knew of the problem and I took it in to have it fixed. Today on the way home from the Audi dealer and stop and when I got back in the car same problem it wouldnt start on the first try. Have many others of you had this problem? What can I tell me dealership to get this fix correctly. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you have the advanced key option, this is a known problem, with a TSB, and they have to replace the switch.

Default RE: 05 a6 4.2 starting problems

I leased a new 2006 A6 3.2 last July and the same problem with the failed starts began shortly after I took delivery. I've taken it back to the dealer numerous times in an effort to diagnose and fix the problem. The last time, at the end of Feb, the dealer kept it for a week and a half thinking that the intermittent start failers were related to the fuel delivery system, since they had already tried some sort of reprogramming. They cautioned me that there was no gaurranty that they had fixed the problem. The day after I picked up the car I experienced two failed starts on two separate occasions. Now I am waiting for them to get back me after they have further discussions with the Audi engineer who apparantly has been consulting with them on the starting problem. The dealer said that it was not aware of this problem with other Audis. By the way, I do not have the key sensor feature that you were referring to but I do have the navigation system.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has experienced this intermttent starting problem with their Audi or has any suggestion as to what may be causing it.
