Minnesota winter driving, average speed 40 mph, mix of city and hwy, with
average hwy speed of 75. I'm driving the 04 2.7t tip.  Does this seem right?
How much does  0 degrees F affect mpg?

I live in Denver...just bought a 2001 2.7  and I get about 18mpg.
I was surprised my milage was so poor as well.

I get about 22 but I drive 90% at 60mph 30 miles each way.  If I drive city/hwy I get about 18.

When I had my 2001 2.7T tipronic, I averaged around 17-18 MPG for about 50/50 city/highway driving.  Mileage seemed to be slightly worse in the winter, which I attributed aminly to 1) winter fuel mix, 2) car running while I scraped ice snow off the windows, and 3) worse traffic on highways in the winter.

My 2002 2.7T manual got a consistent 22 mpg when I was commuting 140 miles a day, 95% highway. I get about 17 mpg now I drive a 50/50 city/highway mix. Mileage may seem low until you consider the curb weight is 3759 lbs for the manual and 3924 lbs for the tiptronic. My first car was a '69 327 Impala coupe that weighed less than my Audi...

I keep a little book where I figure my gas mileage at actual, because the computer is way too optimistic.  I do mostly highway driving at 70-75 and summer mileage is 22-24mpg and winter 20-22mpg.  City is down in the high teens.  I've kept track from 34k - 90k miles.  And (I always get crap for this) use midrange gas almost exclusively.  IMO proper tire pressure contributes more to the mileage than the octane.  Others will debate this.

On a couple longer trips where I drove 55-60 I got over 25mpg.  On one 180 mile trip back from Detroit when I drove over 90 most of the way I got 19-20mpg.

When I bought my 2.8 A6 Avant in 2003, we were getting 14 mpg consistant on a 1hr drive each way on the highway at about 70-90 mph variable.
We get better mileage in the winter here due to more dense air and lower humidity when it gets cold.(Tampa,FL) 3 years later and now at 140,000 miles we are getting 19 mpg regularly under same general conditions and no changes to the car except tires and maintenance.

I can get as low as 4-5mpg city if I want to. And I can keep it down. If I take it a little easier I normally get 10-12mpg City. I Can however easily get 20mpg City and 28mpg Highway, but that requires me actually using tip and shifting into higher gears as soon as I can and rolling in neutral when I'm coming up to a red...  Oh and it is completely stock. Getting chipped soon though..

bringin back an old topic here but does this sound normal.. .heres the factors...
on a 19 mile trip all highway, i averaged 22.5 mpg in my 98 a6 tip (2.8 quattro), 93 octane fuel, new k&n air filter, fresh mobil1 synthetic, and filter. fully inflated 235/35/19 tires.. and windows up, no a/c. just headlights on. what do you think, btw, humidity was extremely high (fog/ thunderstorms on the way)and 75 degrees. thanks

Just to see what happens if I completely elliminate fast accelleration, check out these number over 2 months:
24 mpg around town
29-30 mpg highway 70-75mph (and that's with the windows DOWN!)

I suspect those mpg's in the teens are more the result of heavy footed off-the mark drivers.

I got close to 24 mpg on my last tank, mostly highway miles. And that is with me driving fairly agressively AND a bad air temp sensor. Pretty decent, I can't complain!
