Bad news mate. The 4.2 is an interference engine. You've probably got a pretty big bill on your hands. For your sake, I hope a miracle happened and you didn't fry your heads/valves.

Interference motor means that the valves WILL hit the pistons should the timing belt break.

RE: i have a 2001 audi a6 4.2l big problem somone helppppppp
the valves can bend on an interference motor, hence the word interference.

Yep, i just did a set of heads on a 4.2L that broke its timing belt too. The total cost of the repair was
$5000 installed with a new water pump timing belt and rollers. Sorry bro. |

Well..how fast was the engine turning when it broke (RPM)? If it was at idle and you shut it off right away, you might get lucky. Man, that sucks big time.

well i was involved in an accident like 30 miles and hour and hit in the front and like the core support came bak smashed the timing belt cover i think and the timing belt snapped als i have a crack in my intake manifold

Well if you got nailed audi's have a saftey cut off when an accident happens which means the computer might have shut off the engine before the timing belt snapped which is good news for you.
