Do anything to your Audi today? Post up.
For my part, I:
Installed mirrored front turn signal bulbs.
Replaced missing front driving light grill.
Replaced center console cup holder.
Obviously, I'm starting very low on the challeng continuum....And...to affirm newb status...searched for transmission fluid dipstick, eventually concluded that Audi deined its seals perfect and its users unsuitable for checking fluid level.[>:] Full filter & fluid service is pending, i'll show it!

Nothing today. We did have the windscreen and front left window regulator replaced on my mom's A6 this week. Also fitted new perspex number plates. Our province only had ugly tin ones up to now.

Hey-- would appreciate it if you could take some pics during the install and post them up! I'm thinking along similar lines (Crossover pipe and muffler R&R).ANyoneknow the stock pipe diameter for 4.2?Just 2"?

Audi valve stem caps-- much faster (not). Cabin air filter (apparently P/O did that in the course of maintenance, found Audi filter in there with manufacture date of 6/6/06!).
Hopefully getting to some fluids filters later today. Still on a slow ramp-up....
OK..did LOF...still haven't broken anything, I don't think. THe exhaust on this '02 is decent- still small diameter pipe, but a nice crossover. Still eyeing that middle muffler..

yeah, i've been busy. i've disassembled the front brakes, control arms, steering linkage, and cv shafts. i removed the exhaust from the midpipe back and am in the process of welding up my engine sling so that i can pull the transmission out. i'm also going to be removing the driver's side hub bearing because it's toast. so hopefully by the end of today, the upper exhaust will be off and the transmission will be sitting on the floor before it's off to the shop to get the front dif rebuilt.

i think that's about right, it's frickin tiny.....okay, yeah, they're a 2" diameter, i just calculated it from one of the pictures that i just took the other day.

Exhaust is on. A little louder than I expected at full throttle but almost silent at idle. Most importantly it actually makes power.

Maybe thats just the state of exhaust tech now- freer flowing nets more noise under load and the extent of dampening is mainly at idle. I want a louder idle, and soft when cruising, probably not really feasible. With my 4.2L I'm not really anticipating power gains- free flow does wonders for turbos. Mustang- kudos for getting waayy in there. Good time to get piggies in lieu of the cats?

Spark plugs. Less iron in the way than Porsche (albeit an older one, by a couple decades), less sharp objects than a mitsu twin turbo. Pretty decent to work on. So far.

Wow, that sucks, gigged before you could post a pick! Maybe less-tinted tint?
I installed smoke sidemarkers with reflective bulbs (ordered separately). Will have to take a day or more to decide whether I like it, but I think it works OK with the black. Gotta go after the fuel filter and the exhaust. Are we sure that the center muffler isn't just straight through? Not much room for pass tubes and the like in that spot.

well i've got the whole exhaust off of mine right now, so i'll try to take a look at it, but i'm afraid i might not be able to tell much without cutting it apart and unfortunately i still need this exhaust, but i'll see if i can help determine whether it's straight through or not.

Appreciate it. Bostondriver mentioned that, of two cars that did exhaust mods to RS4, his car with the full system was much more boisterous than the one that just did the rear/final mufflers. So that would tend to support the view that the final mufflers are just resonators to soak up a bit of the resonance. But unless the tubes or deflectors are tiny, I'm surprised that the middle muffler does much for sound/volume attenuation. Thanks for being willing to try to take a gander in there, I'll be interested to hear about what you are able to find. Hope your front end project is going OK- that would be a great undertaking to photodocument and add to the DIY section. You're covering a lot of ground.

I had my center resonator replaced with straight pipe. Well, actually, I had high performance resonators installed initially. It sounded perfectly stock, so I went to the scrap bin and checked the OEM center muffler. It was straight-through, nothing but daylight. Dam##! So back to straight pipe. Even that made only a shade of difference in tone and volume. No easy way to go, I guess. Some seem to be marketing the Flowmaster Hushpower units to replace the OEM final mufflers. THey are roughly the right shape but are supposed to be fairly loud and utilize internal baffles which will add backpressure. Ah well, good enough for now. $150.

glad you figured it out because i couldn't make a definitive call on whether they were straight through or not just by looking at them. spoke with the dealership i bought the car from again today, and they've decided that they might help me out some on the repair costs, but they wanted one of our indy shops around here to take a look at it first. so i will literally unbolting the transmission from the engine when they decided this, so i just got done throwing everything back together so it can get looked at on tuesday. oh well, i guess them paying for some of it is much better than nothing, so we'll see what comes of it. if anything i guess i'll just have to take it back apart again, but it'll be much easier the second time around since i've already done it.

I'm sure I'll come to regret this...but I put on the caps that cover the lugbolts.
If I get several tons of stone spread today, I might go after the fuel filter.
Driveline fluid still pending......
Still taking baby steps, while researching best exhaust solution.

Whats the difference in the tip codes folks are using? Boston Driver is on 00030, I think, but 01032 is cited above. Gotta check it out, either way.
Today- changed fuel filter...finally. Folks were saying in front of rear wheel, I figured that meant that it was between wheel well lining and the body. Jacked the car up and DOH, right there at the floorpan.
Did the transmission fluid. Only got 4qts or so changed, which stinks becuase the stuff that came out had all the viscosity of tap water and was pitch black. Not too much clinging onto the magnets though. That fill procedure is for the birds...
Did rear diff fluid- it looked pretty good.
Tomorrow hoping to fit pipercross air filter, and to fluid in middle diff and front gearset....I'm getting perplexed by the different boxes and names for them though. My VR4 had front and rear diffs and a transfer case. The final drive terminology is throwing me off, I think.

Center or intermediate diff/drive whatever fluid change. Nice stuff came out, redline went in. Seems to be a little less gear/drivetrain noise. One more gearbox to go in front of the trans.
Also slammed a gi-normous new england pothole, got a flat, and think I knocked one of my 17" sport rims out of round..[:@]
