Default Air Intake Manifold Gasket replacement?

Hi, I'm a newbie to the forum and Audi engine work, but I'm ok with most mechanical probs. Today my 1995 A6 Avant Q. was diagnosed with a bad (leaking) top manifold gasket and a bad fuel injector #6. Not good, and the dealer wants $500 and $300 to R&R both, respectively, after I already bought new plugs and wires, I'm getting strapped. Has anyone out there changed the upper (top?) gasket on an a6 2.8 and if so is it worth me trying or should I find an indie mechanic to do it all for maybe $500?
actually, I just bought all the parts I need online (new injector $70, manifold gasket $4!), so that should help...
Thanks all, I appreciate your help in making my Audi healthy again!
Doug
