View Full Version : 2000 A6 2.7T wheels rims
bucaro1975 04-14-2007, 03:22 AM I am posting this message in hopes of finding wheel solutions that others have already successfully employed on 2.7T. Although tirerack has several rims to choose from, I would rather use a solution that someone else has found satisfactory. It's a limited selection for the 2000 A6 2.7T because of the large brake calipers.
I would like to find wheels that are under $225/wheel and that I can use for dedicated summer use and that require no spacers and use the original bolts from the 16x7 wheels that came original (keeping as dedicated winter wheels). I think a 17x8 wheel would probably be ideal for me. Anyone have a success story for me?

ppgoal 04-15-2007, 08:19 PM I believe the 18" SSRs purchased by the original owner were bought at Discount Tire. They clear without any mods on my 2003. I don't know if the calipers are the same as yours. I did find that they take a different lug nut, but that was fine with me as they were able to sell me a locking set which I wanted anyway.

im with ya on that, bud. i have the large brakes and ive had to forgo 6 sets of wheels that i really liked because they cannot clear the calipers.
indyaudiguy 04-16-2007, 09:43 PM I went with a staggard set up with 19x9.5 rear and 19x8.5 front. With the tire set up I used they are2/100th of a inch difference in height. So this will not effect the quattro. The tire sizes used are 275-30-19 rear and 235-35-19 front. I've got about $1500 for the tires and wheels.
votblindub 04-17-2007, 12:39 AM idk, i heard staggered isnt good if youve got quattro
indyaudiguy 04-17-2007, 01:17 AM as long as the tire hights are within 3% variance of each other. with the sizes i used the fronts are 25.48in tall and the rear 25.5in. almost exact. i have about 3000 miles on them with 2 road trips over 600 miles each and no problems or vibrations.
mpw2.7T 04-17-2007, 02:44 AM I have BBS RKs on mine 17X8. I managed to pick up a nearly perfect set on eBay (with used tires - P Zero Nero M+S) for $600 shipped. Keep your eyes peeled - they're out there.
I also had a set of the OEM B5 S4 Avus wheels in 17X8. The S4 uses the same brakes we do. They are pretty plentiful on eBay.
votblindub 04-17-2007, 03:55 PM my friend whos an MK4 owner told me that we can use staggered wheels if the difference between them is no bigger than one inch. can anyone confirm or refute that?
bucaro1975 04-21-2007, 05:24 PM sweet looking wheels. I am afraid of 19" rims though b/c NJ is an orgy of potholes. Can you send the info on the rims and where to buy?
formulagigi 04-23-2007, 07:49 AM HI I have 19's but I see on your post you're looking for 17's
I have a set pf BBS RC made for Audi that are GREAT. They look good on the A6 and are light! dealer sell them for over 500 each, and tirerack for 450 I think.
If you're interested, I could sell you mine for 800 + shipping for the set due to age and scratches. Wheels are true and balance perfectly.
Currently they have winter tires on them which in would remove unless you want them, in which case price would be 1500.
Tires are new and expensive (235x35 Goodyear ultagrip3) with warranty on them. Paid $900+ for them mounted with the warranty
formulagigi 04-23-2007, 07:51 AM ^ see Votlindub sig above. Same wheels. ET 35.
Look phenomenal with 8mm spacers in front and 15mm on rear wheels
bucaro1975 04-23-2007, 01:22 PM formulagigi,
Thanks for you response. I have 16's now that I used with winter tires this year and I'm planning to keep them as winters if I can find a reasonable price for another set of wheels for summer. The BBS wheels would be a good match for what I want., but I've been trying to keep my budget closer to 500. Are the BBS RC wheels 17x8? Can you send me the exact model number so that I can look them up? Thanks.
Mike
daroshi 04-23-2007, 10:32 PM Have a look at theseOEM BBS rims: http://www.audiforums.com/m_495459/tm.htm
I'd buy them myself but I just spent my allowance on APR stage1 anda suspension upgrade. Wheels will come later...[sm=gears.gif]
indyaudiguy 04-23-2007, 11:10 PM boring! at least get a lip on those bbs wheels
formulagigi 04-24-2007, 05:08 PM 17's on my A6 in motion.... with spacers. Looks good.

formulagigi 04-24-2007, 05:11 PM They are OEM for Audi so yuo know fitment won't be an issue and I am pretty sure they are under 20 lbs. I have the caps and bolts.

Those are exactly the same as mine!
bucaro1975 04-24-2007, 06:50 PM I'm interested in the wheels, can you let them go for 5 plus shipping?
formulagigi 04-24-2007, 09:49 PM I can get close, Ineed to pay to dismount the tires.
Where are you located? I need to figure out shipping too. I just shipped a set of 19 BBS CK with tires from NC to CA for 160, supplies included.
Just rims should be a bit cheaper. Give me yuor state and zip, I'll have my guy check on Price.

is the image of your car in your listing showing it the wheels you are selling? If not, can you post a pic? Also I'd really like a catalogue number or something to specifically identify the wheel make.
Thanks
bucaro1975 04-25-2007, 03:36 AM oops, I see the pictures of the 17" BBS RC's you already posted above, ignore my request.
formulagigi 04-25-2007, 05:04 AM I don't know the catalogue #, on the spec sheet it just says BBS RC.
BBS made the wheels for Audi.
Call your dealer and ask for the # and price. I called last year to get a 5th one and it was $563 new! :(
Needless to say, I kept my doughnut! :)
yes the pics I posted above are the BBS RC's 17' on my car that I would sell. 4 rims.
bucaro1975 04-25-2007, 05:17 AM Let me know when you have a shipping cost estimate. Again, I'm in NJ 08534

formulagigi 04-25-2007, 05:30 AM I'll ask my shop tomorrow.
bucaro1975 04-25-2007, 05:42 AM Ok. Can you fill in a couple more blanks for me?
1. You said you used spacers. Are spacers required to make the wheels align right? I'm not too keen on using spacers :(
2, Also, can you check whether the wheel is a 17x7.5 or a 17x8?
formulagigi 04-25-2007, 06:09 AM Spacers ARE NOT REQUIRED, remember these are OEM wheels for the A6. I added spacers because it looked better. I found a great set, perfect fit, sieze and pretty light. It put the wheels right at the edge of the fenders.
Not sure 100, but I think they are 17x7.5. I'll check tomorrow
formulagigi 04-29-2007, 12:11 AM Shipping is about 100 bucks.
bucaro1975 04-29-2007, 01:11 PM I can do it if you can let them go for $400.
Thanks
formulagigi 05-03-2007, 04:29 AM Sorry can't do, i'd rather keep them for winter tires and track. They are very light. 400 is not even the price of one and i'D have to pay to get the tires removed
bucaro1975 05-03-2007, 10:56 AM Ok. Thanks for the offer. I'll bet you'll get the money your asking on ebay. Best of luck.
bucaro1975 05-11-2007, 11:33 PM FYI, I ended up buying AUDI 17" INCH OEM WHEELS RIMS off a 2004 Audi A4 Avant for my 2000 A6 2.7T. Just put them on today, seems all good. Nice looking 6 spoke wheels, cost me $650 plus shipping, but they had summer tires with some tread left already on them, so not a bad deal.
If you're looking for a good price on rims try looking at edgeracing.com...they have amazing bundles starting from around 600 bucks for 17's with tires (falkens) or any other choice you may have..Flik has an offer going on a pair called the Lex's and they start at 99 a wheel...

Great news, posat pics
mboard182 06-01-2007, 09:29 PM I have a 2001 a6 2.7t and am running Konig Blatant 18x8's wheels with Pirelli p zero nero 255-40-r18.
I originally bought k&r spacers (5mm ?) as the blatants are not listed as compatible w/ the 2.7t. HOWEVER, with NO spacer the wheels turn freely and appear to have a few mm clearance over the stock calipers.
I love the setup, with **one caveat** : these konigs, and most other rims in the sub-$500/each category are not hub-centric (else they would have to be manufactured uniquely for the audi, lexus, bmw, etc... Without the physical center friction fit, it is impossible to consistently center the wheels - they will always be off by at least a tiny bit. I've worked around this by doing 3~4 progressive iterations of tightening the lug bolts in a star pattern, vigorously rocking the wheel by hand in between the first couple tightenings. This solves most of the problem, but there is still enough unbalance to that I experience vibration around a natural frequency; for me this harmonic occurs around 70 mph. I have been putting off machining small donut-shaped spacers to fit between the rotor center-post and the wheel but need to do so soon. after about 10k miles, my front end is making wierd crunking / grinding / rattling over bumps and potholes at low speed. I think this will turn out to be something bushing / shock related, and has probably been caused by the vibration of the off-center wheels. But I obviously can't tell absolutely.
I managed to get *all four* wheels for ~$450 from cheapwheels.com (they no longer have any and won't be getting any in - too bad as I ruined on swerving to avoid some sh1thead...). I dealt with a nice english guy named nigil there - good customer service. BTW - in shopping for a replacement rim I found 18x7.5 and 18x8.5 ... I believe I have 18x8.0 but I may be remembering incorrectly.
I paid $705 total w/ tax for the tires from Discount, but I am glad I went with good tires... I can't say enough about them. Dry hold is amazing, and on snow&ice they give grip/predictability better than any non-winter-specific tire I have ever played with. I don't have a ton of experience with low profile stuff, but non the less am impressed.
mboard182 06-01-2007, 09:31 PM To clarify about the spacers in the post I just made:
-The 5mm K&R spacers I originally bought are horizontal, ie make move the wheels outward.
-the ones I mentioned manufacturing are radial, they won't change the gross wheel position, just ensure they are ~perfectly centered.
