Default Need stereo advice/subwoofer install in stock radio

I have a 2001 A6 with the Symphony head unit and want to install a powered subwoofer. Does this radio have RCA jacks or do I need a converter? Seems like it shouldn't be difficult. I would need to get the Radio removal tools though. Local audio shop wants like $150 for install. I just plan on putting a simple poweredsub in (either kenwood or infiniti). Has anyohe done this, or know what I need? Thanks.

Yo man ... I want to do the same thing, I have an 02 a4 avant and I want to add a 10" sub in the rear side panel of the cargo area. I have seen it done in Eurotuner mag but I cant find any custom enclosures on the internet for this application. Has anyone seen the sub installed this way or know where to buy a prefabbed box to fit? grassyass

You can get a converter and splice into the rear speaker. I dont know if u seen then done before its a fairly simple install. And once u run that converter box to the rear speaker attach your rca's and run your ground and power cables and boom boom away. Im sure u can go to best buy or a local audio shop and purchase a converter for maybe $20.Hope it helps.

http://www.audiforums.com/m_420235/tm.htmYou can try my DIY, and I dont mind Q's to help you along.

As far as finding something already made there is nothing. (at least that I found)
I tapped off the rear speaker's using a converter with no problems with sound. DONT buy a cheap Walmart converter spend the extra $ and get a good 1.

I wouldnt do that, guys. it doesnt end up sounding right. get a decent aftermarket headunit with a sub out and use that. itll sound better overall, plus u get a sub output, plus if u will want to upgrade to aftermarket speakers and possibly an amp itll make things a lot easier
