View Full Version : 420 at the Flywheel or 420 brake? 2007misanoREDrs4 04-26-2007, 04:33 PM i always thought that i was getting 420 bhp but now im being told that its 420 at the flywheel,,,,what is it?! Woodhead2k 04-27-2007, 03:57 AM The engine (crank) is rated for 420bhp, at the wheels (what you actually get/use)its under 400, not sure what it is exactly. 2007misanoREDrs4 04-27-2007, 07:03 PM thanks Chingy 05-01-2007, 03:35 AM isn't bhp measured from the motor? S obsessed 05-01-2007, 11:56 PM horsepower at the crankshaft is called braking horsepower (bhp). Wheel horsepower is called wheel horsepower. (whp) Flip 05-02-2007, 12:04 AM The 420 hp figure is crank horsepower, you will dyno less to your wheels as a result of drivetrain loss. Most car manufacturers measure horsepower at the motor unless otherwise stated. Because it makes it look better ;) sykotoy 05-02-2007, 09:23 AM pal dynoed his b7 rs4 221kw @ wheels thats about 300whp Bondga 05-08-2007, 03:13 AM ^ seems about right. quattro losses about 25% through the tranny mc13 07-22-2007, 07:08 AM Guys, its actually around 245kw atw, at least australian models. or 331 bhp whichever you prefer. Awesome for a quattro drivetrain, 20-30% loss of power. Amazing congrats to the boys at Ingolstadt. beefyosito 07-23-2007, 07:01 PM 300 whp sounds kinda low. I was at Waterfest Saturday and a kid with a 04' S4 pulled 290 whp on the dyno with just a cat-back exhaust. That would put him at about 348 hp at the crank. |
