Ok, just got the car, it’s a 2004 A6 s-line 2.7t has 33xxxx on it, so what is up with this wind noise? Is this just how Audis are? I mean it sounds like my window is down a little bit, but its not and it seems to be only on the driver side window, i check it out to make sure it was up and it was. Seems to get louder and a bit more obvious when I increase speed, any help here would be great. Thanks,

It is all the way up from what i can tell, i even tried pushing it up to see if it could go up more but with no success. Not sure why this happens and I have seen the website with the permanent fix using a plastic tube, but that was for an A4 window, does this work on any model? It only seems to happened on the driver side window….sounds like the window is open..thanks

Remove the door panel and check for the foam insert that goes behind the front mirror, techs sometimes forget to put that foam piece back in when they do window clips or something and it will cause the noise you are complaining of. To remove the door panel you remove the two phillips screws at the top of each end of the panel then lift it straight up.

Sweet! Thank You, is there a DIY on this somewhere or a How-to on taking off the door panel? Are you talking about the triangle piece right by the mirror is where that foam piece is? Sorry, not to technical on cars and any other help would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen a DIY to fix this noise but I dont have a link. What this DIY said to do is get clear tubing like air hose for fish tanks. Cut down the tube straight down 1 side. Roll down the window and press this tube onto the plastic mirror housing. (right on the edge where it meets the window) This is not noticeable because its clear and does not affect the window operation.

ok, so if the foam piece is not there then get a tech to insert one at the dealer? the sound almost sounds like it comes from the TOP of the window and not in that location you describe, unless it does but just sounds like it comes from the top, hey thanks for your help!!

Wind noises can fool you, they can enter at one point and you might hear it at another, but if the foam insert is there you can adjust the door by simply grabbing the top of the window frame and pulling it as hard as you can towards the car, its primative but it works.

I'll be interested how all this turns out. I've noticed wind noise towards the top rear of my driver's front window since I bought the car two years (and 62k) miles ago. I think it's just not pressing against the top seal enough. I was going to try and find a thin felt seal and glue it into that corner, then see if the window compresses it and the noise goes away. I've been traveling every week and have not had time to get around to it.

So I think I fixed my issue, I found it on Audi world but i forgot to get the link up, it was different fix from what the tech article on there. The guy put the same kind of tubing in between the vinyl on the inside of the door at the top, (in that little valley) so I did that with the tubing left over from my fish tank and man its really quit now, i mean its still slightly there but i think that is my ear wanted to hear something, its nothing like it was, i just put about a foot long tubing in there...it seems to work! I am trying to find that article on Audi world to post it...

yeah, never had those wind deflectors before, what is a drag coefficient of less than 0.28 mean?

put it this way ( open your windows ) then feel the resistance and the noise, the drag coefficient is tested In a wind tunnel so really means nothing unless your on the the track and speed is the point
