new to the forums and unsure if i should get the a6 or a4... im 21 student and been saving up since 18... time to get a nice car, weather is an issue living in upstate N.Y. i have about 15-20 to spend. Input is def needed. thanks
I was just in a very similar situation to you and I decided to go with the a6. Drove a 2003 a4 1.8t and the car was just plain slow. Then I found a 2001 a6 2.7T with a 6 speed and sport package. The car was pretty quick and has lots of interior room. Paid 23k for the a6 with taxes and fees and so far I am very happy with the purchase. I probably would have went for the a4 if it was faster, but it just didn't do it for me. Hope that helps.
lol, i've only seen seniors in A6s too, but whatever.
I would swing for the A4 if you're looking to have a little more fun in your car. the luxury is by no means dissapointing, but the bar is obviously steped up for the A6. the A4 is a well rounded car, comfortable and fun. The A6 takes the fun factor down a bit, and rases the comfort. if you're the typical 21 year old guy... i think you'll be MUCH happier in the A4, though all the pretty buttons in the A6 will definatly entertain you for about a week.
If you're 21 and single, I would go with an A4. It's more of a sports car and you will have a lot of fun with it. Whatever you do, get one with Quattro. I almost made the mistake with not going with a Quattro. Test drive them and make your choice. I have an A6, but I love space and luxury look.
im 20 and im getting an a6 ina month or 2, get the a6, but make sure its 6 speed
but it is really all preference....both are nice cars, do u prefer sports luxury sedan or sport compact sedan, if ur a bigger person, u dont wanna squeeze into an a4 every mornin goin to work, thats why i prefer the a6, im 6'2, 220 pounds and wanted an s4, but lets be realistic...
Hmmmm i mean to be honest i think a6 is obv better than a4, pimped out a6s look tiiiight. Idk im very confused on what to do i think best option would be dealer for warranty though thnx for the help and keep em comin

True oldsters drive ugo Buicks or toaster Camrys. I appreciate the increased driver space of the A6 over the A4, and the other old folks who hang around with me and mine like the comfort of the bigger back passenger area.
I guess I fall into that "old guy" status (30). I love my A6, sold my turbo Eclipse to get it. I too was looking to get an S4, but being 6'2" and having a baby seat to put in the back had to opt for the bigger car.
If your worried about the A6 being too big, stop! Like I said, got rid of a pretty tricked out Eclipse, the handling of the A6 is almost spot on, a little more body roll ect., but it doesn't feel big. Try to get one with the sport package as it cures some of the body roll present in non-sport A6's. Hope this helps out and good luck with what ever choise you make....both are great cars.

Go for an A4, I've always seen old people in A6's.
Hope that didn't offend anyone! <ducks>
Ouch! that hurts. Actually it's not the 'A6' part that I'm dealing with. My 2 teenage daughters don't want to been seen in a 'station wagon'. ( '00 A6 Avant ) Too bad I can't impress them with an 'S'.
def, even if it aint s line, or sport packaged, u can always address a sway bar and better suspension. and the fact that the rs6 is based off an a6, u could trick alotta pplz
All these little kids with their A4s just can't afford a real car. (A6) When you put a set of lowering springs, new shocks, a new sway bar and some bigger rims. ( 18") you will have a car that not only looks hot but will carry you in the luxury you are accustomed too. Plus a Bose system that will blow your socks off. Pray for the Pope!

Man, obviously some of you have NEVER driven or let alone ridden in a 2.7T A6. I have an 01 2.7T A6 6Spd manual w/sport package (bolstered seats, 18"sway bars, 17"BBS, all standard) and that car will dust any stock A4 hands down (as well as the slug A6's, 3.0 and 2.8, and the 4.2 A6). I should also add that for you all that think that this is a big geezer car, the 01 A6 as stated above weights 66 lbs. LESS than an 04 S4 for instance (which my Dad drives). Check the numbes, 0-60 in 6.0 AND I don't jeapordize my fact. or extended warranties. A4's are pigs, just like 4.2's (other than S4's).
If you can afford it, find a manual 2.7T, the dealer where I found mine couldn't get rid of it bc it wasn't auto, so I stole it from em for $23K with 28K miles.
I tested a 225hp TT and the turbo lag was embarassing, let alone the fact that the thing is a death box.
P.S. I hold the S4 as the pinnacle (well the RS6 would be nice, but $90K?!?!?!) in driving performance, I just wish i could steal the recaro's off the rear of my dad's S4 and somehow retro fit them on the front of mine!
oh yeah, I just turned 25.
