Default weirdness from the rearend

hi to all the audi lovers... if you could help try to diagnose this problem that would be so awesome....
first question i have is..... I hear a slight humming from the rear end, maybe a ever so slight kind of grinding noise.. it goes away when i turn right. stays when i turn left. it isnt the brakes, i have applied pressure and the pattern of the sound doesnt differ... it doesnt sound to serious but i just want to know what it might be... just hearing this weird noise you know is not suppose to be there is annoying. i dont know as much as most guys that post here so any help is greaty appreciated...

also... i see small specs/dots of what might be rust forming? if it is how can i stop this from forming bigger... any tips?

thanks in advance

jack each wheel of the ground an spin them and listen for bearing noise ( there should be no noise at all ) just simply a smooth rotation

no, the diffs on our cars are not limited slip, unfortunately. you can jack up any one wheel and spin it, provided the car isn't in gear. if you tried to spin both rears or both fronts, that's where you'd have a problem.

Wheel bearing most likely.

Does it make the noise on all types of road surfaces? Mine has a set of GoodYear Eagle RS-A that were on it when I bought it and on certain road surfaces like the brushed concrete they howl like all the bearings were gone. As soon as the road surface changes they run quiet again. Just thought I would throw this in the mix. If the tires are ruled out I would say wheel bearing also.

Wheel bearings also have a tendancy to go out in pairs. Myrear rightwent out and a week later the left went.
