How to do a decent, but safe, launch?
 

Ihave searched a lot on how to do a launch on a quattro but I am not sure if those threads have to do withstock or upgraded clutches. Since I got pulled over by a state trooper and got 5 tickets, I decided to take it to the tracks so a couple of my friends and I are renting out MIR for a day to see whose car is the fastest. I am going to be going up against a civic, rsx, s4, a4, g35, impreza, and mustang gt. I know the g35, s4 and mustang will smoke me but I want to make sure I beat the impreza, civic, and rsx. My problem will be at the start since I need to be careful about my launch since I just put a newstock clutch in. I definetly do not want to f*** this clutch up like the last one...

Could anybody tell me how to do a nice aggresive launch but at the same time not frying my clutch. Thanks

Also, what would be a decent quarter mile time for a 2002 a4 1.8t quattro?

Launching a quattro on a stock clutch is tough. The RPM range is 2.7 to 3.4 and you have to avoid dumping it. It's more of a quicker regular launch. I tried dumping my stock clutch at over 3k once at a light and it didn't work so well... what's that smell?

ok, so if I launch at 2.7 to 3.4 I shouldn't have to worry about screwing up my clutch?

I didn't say that, I only said that's the RPM range you shoot for when launching. Any more and it will likely slip.

Don't forget to dump useless weight when you're there! Empty trunk, consider taking out headrests, etc. It sounds silly but so is gettign beat by a civic.

i safe launch is at what ever doesnt break you transmission so liek 6k would a good launch, the only safe launch for a stock clutch is no launch if you want to launch get a stage 2 south bend and launch at 3k dump on the up swing and you should be ok

Uhhhh.....I don't think the engineers at Audi designed the car with "launching" in mind. Sure, cars are "over-engineered" to create a margin of longlasting performance, but I don't think that a "launch" is one of the R&D tests conducted at the plant.

Does CARFAX show previous launching history?

3k is a safe launch.
Your not dumping the clutch.
The idea is to get it in gear as quickly as possible while keeping the rpms around 3, so that as soon as its in gear all the way you can trounce on the throttle and quickly go from 3k to 6k in first gear.

Its perfectly safe for a stock clutch, I do it all the time, 95k now,tranny and clutch still shift flawlessly.

How many miles are on your new clutch? Not sure if a new clutch needs any break-in time, did they say anything about that when it was installed?
