I'm going to be purchasing either an s4 or rs4 engine. I'm not sure if i want to buy the s4 engine and upgrade to rs4 standards OR simply buy the rs4 engine (and maybe modify from there if possible) and call it a day. What do you think would be best to achieve max power?

I would go with upgrading the S4 motor, if you have the money you can make it the same thing as the RS4 and with a good tune make some powerfull numbers. I also have never seen a RS4 motor for sale anywhere. So it might be a pain in the ass to find one but if you have the time and pashience then go for it and keep your fingers crossed [sm=signs003.gif]

That is one hard post to read.
FTR, the B5 RS4 engine, is completely different. Really only shares the short block with the normal 2.7t.

so, i still havent received a concrete answer... if imodify the b5 s4 to the rs4's engine standards.Would it turn out to be the same as a b5 rs4 stock motor?
i think you just answered your own question. if you make it to be a rs4 motor, then it is a rs4 motor. I say go with a b5 s4 motor, and do a few things to get the power you want. Might be cheaper for ya that way. Engine, chip, full exhaust, bigger turbos, and some minor other things and you will be running sweet.

What you are asking is, if you spend the $10,000+ just in parts to take a S4 B5 2.7t to a RS4 B5 engine, yes, it would be the same as the stock RS4 power wise.
Most people, just get a STG III kit, & put out more HP then a stock RS4 engine.

Just modify the standard engine, i think you're more into buying the engine for the name than the rationality of the matter

thanks 2k s4, that's what ineeded to know. The reason that got me curious is because i never hear of b5 s4's with rs4 engine swaps. So i wasn't sure if i was better to do an rs4 swap into my s4, or just do all the stage III upgrage.
