how is car running? ok? if not check for codes.
If running ok and just poor gas mileage, I would just go with a K&N drop in air filter. From what I hear the stock air box can hold up to 300 hp. Go K&N and save yourself some money, for a chip, or some other modification.

I have Carbonio. It sounds awesome. It works well with turbo upgrade. When I was stock, it seemed to have a little better throttle response. Better gas mileage? Nah. Expensive? Yep. Worth it? Looks good, sounds great, works with Stage III+ so for me, yes. For stock turbo, knowing what Iknow now, I'd have stayed with stock airbox. This ain't no Honda. The stock airbox is the best you can get.
However, if you do upgrade, Carbonio is only intake on B6 to not show an actual DECREASE from stock box. All the others have shown to be worse than stock box.
Be careful with K&N. Lots of B6 folks have MAF problems because the oil from the K&N gets on it.

The problem with K&N filters is when people over-oil them when they clean them. I've been running a K&N panel filter in my A4 for almost 17k miles and I haven't thrown a code.

Handful of people on other forums had them out of the box over-oiled. Ruined MAF. Just be careful is all I'm saying.

I have had my K&N installed for about 40k miles and have re-oiled it 4 times with no issues. Just make sure wave it around a little to get off any excess and put it asside for a bit to let it fully dry before installing it. I generally take out the K&N oil it up and then do an oil change before installing it again. Gives it enough time to try.
