Default 100 CS (A6) Heater Core

The heater core on my 1992 100 CS Qappears to have blown (lots of hot coolant on my leg)! This is after having the the core replacedonly last fall. Warning - the core was replaced by my mechanic, with a new discountitemI purchased on Ebay!

I have bypassed the heater just to get the car going and am contemplating changing the core myself, rather than pay another big labor bill. I'd thereforeappreciate some help with the following questions:

1. Am I right in assuming it is the core that has blown or are there any under-dash hoses that could have blow?
2. Assuming it is the core, how big a job is it to replace it myself? I'veread differing opinions on this. Isit a major dash-out job, or can the core be replaced from under the hood?

All help and advice is very welcome. Thanks.

Default RE: 100 CS (A6) Heater Core

I will admint I know nothing about Audi heater cores or even where they are. That said, I am very familiar with Volvo and Saab heater cores. Every core I have ever changed there have been some sort of hose connecting to it that was in some ways in the dash. Now of course that varys by car, my old Volvo 240 the car was seriously built around the heater core/blower motor, but my Volvo 850 and Saab 9000, you could do if from under the hood. My 9000's heater core turned out to not be bad, but the hose leading to it was, I replaced the core anyways since Saabs are known for bad cores.

I find it unlikely that your new core has ruptured. It would seem to me that a connection on the core itself has failed. But if you are unlucky enough, you need a new core.
