Default Buying an A4

I am a new member of this forum. I am in the market for a new car and I am pretty set on getting an A4. I don’t want to spend much more than 10K for a used 97 or newer. Most of these that I have looked at have mileages between 70k and 90k. Having never owned an Audi, are there major issues that come along at these mileages? i.e., what is the average clutch life, and will I be needing to replace the clutch soon after I get it? Do they hold up pretty well mechanically? (minor things are no big deal, im a mechanical engineering student and have above average mechanical abilities). I also want Quattro awd, so does would the 2.8 V6 be recommended over the 1.8T?

Thanks, I appreciate any advice or knowledge any of you guys have.
-Chris

Welcome to Audi Forums CwhillVT!

Since you're new... check out the START HERE! (click this link) link to get a rundown of the lingo/vocab here at audiforums.

Then be sure to search the archives when you have a question. Chances are the question has been asked before (probably several times) and the archives will have plenty of information to answer your question. If you still need answers, please feel free to ask questions.

Don't feel intimidated; we are all a bunch of pretty cool guys (and gals). Feel free to post advice, comments, ideas, suggestions, and even pics.

You'll need to have the control arms and tie rods checked - the timing belt needs to be replaced around 75K. Best to buy one that has had it done already or negotiate $1500 off the price of one that hasn't had it done.
1.8t is a great engine to maintain and/or mod. The 2.8 is bulletproof but leaves little for modding.
