Default Timing belt is going to be replaced, what else do I need to do?

I read on the forums that when I get my timing belt replaced, I should also get the water pump and something like the accelerator drive belt replaced? Because all of these things will need to be replaced in the next few thousand miles, and they all require the front end to be opened up, which costs lots of labor money.
Should I do this or not? and if so, which parts do I need to preplace? I don't want to spend even more on repairs in the future.
Please lmk!

Thanks
Stan

one final q: I got a quote form the guy for $1200 for new shcoks and the timing belt replaced. this is a very good price, no?

1200 is not bad for shocks, timing belt, and water pump.
Also, get the thermostat replaced and the accesory belts replaced too.

First, read the "tips and suggestions for the new 2.7T owner" at the top of the forum.

I hadmy TBdone two months ago at 96k. I bought a kit from www.blauparts.com that came with everything but the tensioner, which I purchased from them as well. My independent shop charged me for 6 hours labor. Total cost was a little over $800.

I think you mean serpentine belt, not accelerator drive belt. It was also included in the kit.

wow that sounds like a good deal I was charged 1200 for the timing belt, water pump, and new shock absorbers.
The mechanic then told my mom that something was suppsoed to be replaced at 60,000 miles, but that we didn't so he would replace them for another $800. ANy idea what this part is? I was thinking tie rods and suspension?
thanks

accelerator drive belt replaced? no such thing, if it needs it then timing belt/idler rollers/water pump/tensioner and your shorts if you have the change

Well - if you figure about $100 per shock absorber for parts/labor, then we are in the same ballpark. If your mechanic was knowledgeable and reputable, he should have recommended all the tensioners, thermostat, etc be changed at the same time he did the timing belt. The cost of those parts is negligible compared to the labor to take the front of the car off.

I'm not sure of your year/make, but my 2003 A6 2.7T maintenance manual calls for cabin filter replacement and changing the brake fluid at 60k. Spark plugs are every 40k. The timing belt is recommended at 105k miles, but everyone says do it earlier. I did mytiming beltat 96k and my brake fluid at 97k.

You need to be more specific on what your mechanic wants to replace for $800.

i see, but I did not talk to him, I was at work so my father talked to him. he said it was just the 60k mile tune up, so I am guessing it is just all of that. Is $800 a reasonable price?

It's tought to answer that question without knowing what work was included for $800.

By comparison, I rely on a very reasonable independent who changes my oil for under $20 (I supply the Mobil1) and just changed the cabin air filter for $25. He changed all the brake fluid recently for $95. I have not done the plugs since they were taken care of under warranty about 60k miles ago, and expect them to be about $150 parts/labor.

But he has had some profitable jobs: chipping my car (he provided the GIAC, DVs, and TBB) for $1300, the clutch and flywheel, plus all drive train fluids, for ~$3000, and the timing belt job for 6 hours labor (I supplied parts).
