Default Central locking problems???

I have an A4 - 95 model. For some reason the central locking doesn't unlock when using the remote control, although the remote will lock it. I am now using the key to lock/unlock the car.

Recently I unlocked the car and I could hear the central locking keep running like it was locking and unlocking all the time! I located the noise and it was coming from an electrical box buried in the boot, its on the right side, the opposite side to the jack.

Is this the unit that controls the locking?

Luckily this time it stopped when I locked the car but previously it didnt stop and continued to run whilst I was driving. It has also done it when I was unaware and resulted in a flat battery!

Any ideas what the problem could be or what do do?

Thanks.

it's probably the central locking pump. They can develop leaks in the system. The locks are not electric, but powered by a vacuum system. You really need to get the car scanned for fault codes.

Default RE: Central locking problems???

Fortunately my brother has the same car so I have been able to try a different central locking pump. The replacement pump seemed to work fine for a while but only if I locked/unlocked the car using the key, it would not work with the remote. I took the car to an alarm specialist but they said it was a problem with the central locking, although they didn't actually look at it because they don't work with cobra alarms!

Anyway after a short time and me trying to get the remote to unlock the car the original problem is happening with the replacement pump! When I unlock the car (with the key) the pump keeps running and if I disconnect the air tube from the pump I can hear the air release and the pump continues to suck air for a while. If I try to lock the car with the key whilst the pump is stuck running in this way it won't budge so I have to use the remote!

Is there anything else you can suggest I try bearing in mind I don't have VAG-COM and I really can't afford Audis service charge!

Thanks
