does anyone know exactly where the alarm siren is located? i know it's in the back somewhere next to the cd changer and nav box, but do i need to pull all that crap out to get to it or see it? the reason i ask is i'm planning on experimenting on putting a different and louder siren in the car so that i can actually hear it if the alarm goes off. pictures or detailed descriptions of where it's located or how to get to it would be great.
much thanks,
mike

alrighty, the factory alarm siren has been taken out and replaced! the new one that i put in sounds great and is actually loud enough that it hurts my ears to stand next to the car with the alarm going off. the replacement was extremely straight forward, i just needed to figure out what i was looking for. i also changed the location of the siren because i noticed that even with the very loud new one in the same spot in the trunk, it was still muffled sounding from outside the car. not nearly as quiet as stock, but still not loud enough for my taste. what i did was to relocate the siren to inside the rear bumper, running spade connectors from the original alarm harness connector to wires that fed through the tail light hole on the drivers side and down into the bumper, pretty much just beside the driver side muffler. it works great so far, and i'm extremely excited that i can actually hear the alarm going off now. oh, and i ended up using one of those mini-pizo sirens, you can pick them up pretty much anywhere.

Have any pics of the install? I HATE how quiet mine is. I want to replace it, and get a new battery in my key, so I dont have to be 4 feet away to unlock the car haha.

Anyone know if it is possible to get one that "chirps"? Like the sound a lot of aftermarket alarms? I love that sound!

the one that i put in is one that does that. it sounds great and it fits the car much more because such an expensive car should have an expensive sounding alarm. i'll post a video later today in this thread of how it sounds now.

alright everyone, here's that quick video that i promised you. now you can see and hear what it sounds like in action!
Right click and Save As...:http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/4/28/1025953/A6_Siren.wmv

and here's a hopefully helpful picture. sorry for the poor quality, stupid camera phones! this is more or less what it'll look like when you've got it all ripped apart.

interesting, it seems to work perfectly fine for me. if other people have problems with it too i'll try hosting it somewhere else. it's also a 26 meg file, and the domain i have it hosted on isn't all that quick, so it's probably not going to stream worth a crap if you don't save it to your computer.

Where'd you get the siren? I'm not really sure where to look for one. Any certain thing I should look for when getting one?

Won't load for me either in Vista with WMP 11.

was able to load it with flv player but no video.  I like the sound, reminds me of an annoying bird.

my friend just gave me his that was from his old alarm that he used to have on his car. i'm pretty sure they're nothing special and you can pick them up from pretty much any place that specializes in car audio and alarm type stuff. the only thing that really matters is what you want it to sound like.

Here, I re-rendered the video as a Quicktime Video now, so hopefully anyone with Vista or having problems playing the video will hopefully be able to play it now.

I like the sound it makes now too, if anything it's distinctive so I can definitely tell if my alarm is going off or not.
