Apparently I lost part of my exhaust, and I couldn't find the pipe on the road anywhere.  I haven't been able to find any diagrams online for my car, so I'm not sure what the part is called.  It runs from somewhere near the engine back past the front of the front doors a little ways.  Any idea what it is?

The dealer is telling me that they can't replace it because the bolts aren't matching up, so they think that the exhaust may have been customized before I bought it.

Am I hurting anything by driving it without that pipe there?  They recommended either having a new pipe welded on or having the catalytic converter replaced for $1300 so that the bolts will match.  I don't like either of those options, so I think I'd like to do something nice with the exhaust for less than $1300.

Do I have any options?

Does anybody atleast know which pipe fell off?

Ok Is your car a 1.8t or 2.8?  I know that on my 1.8t the Cat was directly attached to the turbo attached to the cat is the down pipe and attached to the down pipe would be the rest of the exhaust system located under the car.  My Cat broke off right at the flange that mounts it to the turbo so I replaced it with a test pipe so I have no cat now.

Take it to an exhaust shop and get there advise the dealer blows you should be able to fix it for cheap and upgraded exhaust system is about 400 to 500 if you have it custom built by an exhaust shop.
