Default Subs/Amp Compatibility

Hey Guys,

I just bought a 98 Audi A4 2.8Q. It didn't come with a CD changer, so I'm ordering an Alpine mp3 changer with the interface to run it through the stock "concert" radio. I'm also planing on buying an amp and a couple of subs. Right now a friend of mine is selling a sony Xplod amp and 10" MTX subs. Do you think I can get this hooked up to the current system? If so, how complex is it? if not, what are my other options?

thanks in advance for your help.

You'll have to get a line output convertorto run the amp with your stock HU. Something similar to this:

You may well find later on (especially if you hear someone else's car that has had the audio system completely swapped out), that you wish you replaced everything. I ended up doing this a couple months ago. I got sick of my Concert system and decided to put my old Alpine CD head unit in. Local stereo shop gave me the wrong pre-amp adapter harness (I was able to power the headunit, get memory and antenna, etc, but not connect the speakers), so I just ripped out the whole system and put in all new wiring and speakers. Single amp, 10" sub (custom box and rack), and also moved away from the CD head unit and put in a mobile theater setup, and believe me, it was worth the work and expense. There are limitations to how good a sound quality you'll get from the OEM gear, despite adding your subs and amp. You might as well take a day and redo the whole thing. In the end you will likely be far happier with the results, and it will save you a lot of extra work to do the whole thing in one shot.
