Hi to all, Newbie to the forum. Hoping to get some advice to get my 90Q back on the road!! Any and all help appreaciated!!
Turn key and all acc. come on but no energizing of the starter. I took starter off and had it checked and it showed bad. Replaced starter. Turn key and same thing, everything works except the starter. I jumpered accross posts on starter to make sure I had power to it and spun, so power was there. Checked the voltage on the wire to the solonoid with key activated and got about 2 volts. Common sense tells me that somewhere between the ignition switch and the starter is a relay or something that is not alloying voltage to get to starter. I can not find a starter relay, if it has one! Any words of wisdom?? I am also trying to find a repair manual for this car as well.
I narrowed it down to the ignition switch. Going to replace this weekend. I hope that solves the mystery. Along that line, can I change out the switch without tearing down the steering wheel and the dash? The manual is a little confusing. Anyone had any experience changing switch out? The electrical part only, not the keyed cylinder.
I replaced the ignition switch and same thing!! Turn key and all assy come on, but no starter activity!! I am at my witts end!! Does anyone have any suggestions?
I would like to reopen this for questions myself about this push button start switch..... My 1990 90 has a bad box, and being broke, I want to bypass it like him. I have the switch, but here is the problem I encounter.... My switch has the 2 poles, and I have the wires to do this..... One goes to the battery, which termimal? Secondly, where does the second wire run? I want to turn the key to the on position, and push the button to start the car, just to get me by for now! PLEASE, anyone help me with this. I appreciate it sooo much. Thanks
I have the same problem with my 94 90quattro turn key and all acc. come on but no energizing of the starter. I took starter off and had it bench test it and it works, so i figured it out that it might be the switch i'm going to do a voltage drop on the wire to the solenoid. When i jumped the starter terminals engine would turn but it wont start i'm not sure if i'll start just by jumping the starter terminals.
The car was parked for about a year i checked if there was any spark while jumping the starter and with the key on, there was no spark, but i'm not sure if you can check for spark like this, any other guest on why it wont start
