I love Audis, I don't know much about them though. I drive a BMW but I sincerely love all German cars and couldn't choose between them. But I was wondering what the difference between an s6 and an rs6 (any s between any rs even) is. Thanks a lot guys

Generally speaking the RS is the Euro version of the S car. The RS is definitely faster, tighter, and may have a few interior extras. RS cars tend to increase the price of the equivalent S by about 50% or more. While S cars are fairly rare in the US (or at least they were - the latest S car production was greater than past S cars), the RS cars are practically impossible to find. There was a time when they weren't sold in the U.S. at all, but now some RS6 cars have become available through your Audi dealers. Lastly, it should be noted that the S and RS cars are not produced year in and year out - further increasing the cachet of the vehicle.

For specifics, it would take several paragraphs or lists to describe the differences between these cars.

rs6 has the bi turbo setup on the s6's engine aswell

There is a huge difference, the S6 right now does not exsist in the United States. However they have it in Europe. The new S6 is suppose to have 440 hp, while the new RS6 will have 550 Hp. The S4 has around 330 HP, it is the engine in the A6 4.2, but the new Rs4 will have 414 hp V8. S6 is like a sports package, and a nicer engine. While RS6 is truely for racing. An m3 can destroy an s4, but the RS4 is in a class of its own.

acutally, it's the other way around....

the s4 pretty much wrecks the m3 in every way.

the m3 beats the s4 by about 2 or 3 tenths of a second in a straight away from a standstill, but for anything else the s4 just is plain better, with the exception of hairpin turning in completely dry conditions.

you're right on about the rs4 though.

I think the last S6 in the US was in 1995. I could be wrong, but if you do a model search on Autotrader.com that's when S6s start to show up in your search. The RS6 was as recent as 2003 and will be here again in 2007, I think.

There are performance differences between the two cars, but as pointed out above, the big difference is the scarcity affecting the price. A used 2003 RS6 with 20K+ miles on it can still bring $70,000 or more. An S6 would not bring even half that, even if available with similar model year and milage. And since the latest S6s were of '95 vintage and have a bunch of years/miles on them now, they get really inexpensive to purchase. Whether they are inexpensive to maintain these days is another question.
