Default 2001 a6 vibration from FR corner while moving

I need your help identifying the issue here:

Symptoms:
for a while now I've been getting some vibration at the steering wheel at speeds of about 50-65mph. They would go away if I sped up or slowed down.
The problem seems to have evolved in the past few days and now I feel the vibration through the whole car when I'm at highway speeds and going into a gentle left-hander. Sometimes, when I drive the car slow and give it gas with the wheels turned to the left, I feel slight grinding/vibration.

This might be a helpful detail:
couple of weeks ago I had the car up on a lift and was told I need the rubber boots replaced on the "turning point of the front axle" (sorry, I have no idea what that part is actually called).

I'm going to see my mech in the morn, but would love to have some input here - I need to know what it is before we get to diagnosing the problem.

Aletrnatively, I'm also in the process of getting new bulbs for the HID headlights and am trying to figure out what bulbs go in for the low beams (from what I gather its either D2S or H7), and whether I can just replace the bulbs or do I need to buy a "package"?

CV joint, bearings, ball joint. Take your pick.

Don't overlook the obvious before you start suspecting the worst though....could just be you have a wheel (or two) out of balance or you have a defective tire. Any reputable shop should look there first before they start replacing bearings or CV joints.
