Default window water leaks anyone?

new a3 owner here here... decided to get an a3 b/c of this forum after a year of deliberation. thanks to all!

has anyone experienced water condensation and leaking into the rear windows? i was washing my car on a hot day in n. california and i noticed water condensing on the inside of the car on one of the rear windows towards the bottom. when i rolled down the rear windows and rolled back up, i noticed there was water on the inside of the windows. anyone else experience this?

dealer where i bought--stevens creek--ordered window seals to replace after checking it out, but i decided to go to another closer dealer b/c it would take 1 week to get the parts (i live 1+ hrs away from that dealer). the new, closer dealer--rector--cannot duplicate the problem several weeks later. car had <1000 miles at the time--and yes, i'm 100% positive both windows were rolled up completely! could temperature be a key variable here?

TIA...

the car: black on black, s-line, dsg, open sky, in-dash cd changer... will stay mostly stock for a while. getting it tinted this wknd w/20% matico and llumar uv shield (clear stuff for uv protection). dice ipod adapter coming as soon as i get my hands on the new "touch"

I haven't noticed any problems in mine and haven't heard of any complaints before. You might just have a worn door seal. Might as well go back to the original dealer that ordered the parts and get them replaced. See if that fixes the problem.

Good luck,

Cheers!

Pretty solid shut windows on the A3. No moisture, leaks, drips or any condensation what so ever.

I would expect it though. I never had that issue with any vehicle before.

Like mentioned above, could definetly be a worn door seal.

Let us know what it is once you get it sorted out. I'd be surprised if it is a worn seal on a car with <1k miles. I would have to think it would more likely be that the seal is not seated completely or was mis-installed somehow at the factory.

long time coming but finally got resolution on this issue. kind of.

it started raining in the bay area only recently but i got the same problem. condensation on the inside of the rear windows and significant wetness when i roll the windows down and back up--after it's been in rain, of course.

i took it to the dealer. they took apart the door (i actually saw the taken-apart panel) and noticed a gap that would be enough to allow water to seep in. they finally repro'd the issue but didn't know if it was a manufacture-wide issue. they had a regional specialist look at it on mon and then they had 5 audi engineers from germany take a look as well (more on that below). they decided to take the panel off of a new a3 to compare (ouch) and everyone agreed that there is condensation/water that comes into the panel but it is endemic on all A3's. they also concluded that it is "normal". not sure why mine has more than others.

sigh..... so i guess i'll avoid rolling the windows on rainy days. but still, i hope there are no long term consequences. no one else has noticed this?

sidestory: the german engineers were at the dealer with 3 diesels (a5's and q7's) in an effort to get them into california. i'm sure some of you folks would appreciate these monsters (500+ lb-ft torque!). the service manager told me that at this point, the super clean diesels did not pass CA regulations.

they also had a small flotilla of r8's there. i hope those windows don't leak.

Thanks for the update. I'm one of those who would prefer the diesel engine. I'm in love with torque! LOL

Cheers!
