can someone help me ? i need to find a place that sells rims that will fit my 2001 a6 2.7t. having a difficult time. thanks for any help.

Try Tire Rack: you enter your year and make and the site lists available wheels for your car. You can also preview what the wheels will look on your car down to the make, model and even color. Good luck!

I just put some OZ Superleggera and Bridgestone RE750's on my '01. 18x8, 35mm offset, 235/40R18. They cost a lot though. I now wish I went something cheaper though, but I love they way they look. Bought them from tirerack.

I personally would go for performance instead of looks. The lighter the better. Check out tirerack and look at the SSR Competition they weigh only 16.8lbs a pop for 18's and 15.5 lbs for 17's. They look pretty good too!

yeah ssrs are no doubt one of the lightest.

hartmann sources great reps whether they be RS4's or DTMs
you can probably find them on achtuning.com

flik also makes a few anthracite/black rims that are gaining popularity among younger a6 owners. the "justice" line seems to be the most popular. i've heard of 'wasps' too.

Have the 2.7T... can I put a 17 x 7.5 rim? What is the widest tire I can got to? (I am going more for looks here, not perfromance.)

Picked up a set this weekend. 225/45 R17 Tires on the Fastwheels 'virus' brand. Will post pics when they are on the car.

Tires are Nexen's. Supposed to be made by Michlen. Anyone heard of em? Used em?

Not looking to race here, just get rid of the sedan look. I like the 17's so that I can get a better ride than the 18's and not be as concerned with driving in toronto's pot holed streets.

Deal was good.. $2000.00 CND - for tires, rims, all hardware, mounted, taxes included.

really really like those. where did you get them? didnt look like that choice was on the website in your previous post. Q for you: i just put new tires on my stock wheels. if i got just new wheels, are they gonna charge me a whole lot to change the tires to the new wheels or should i wait till i need new tires bfore i get wheels? (dumb ?

No, there are of fhe fastwheels site. They are made in Quebec, Canada I think.

No, they should not charge a whole lot. Just make sure the tires fit first. Standard cost to mount a tire and balance it is around $15 a wheel. If you buy rims, they may mount the old tires on the new rims for free. I'd ask em, and get them to do it as part of the deal. I may have my tire guy mount up snow tires on my factory rims, if he gives me a smoking good deal.. like 100-120 a tire all in, mounted, balanced and dispose of old tire. I hate spending another 400-500 no on something i won't need till the late fall.. but who knows

I recommend HRE 540R's, BBS CH or LM's, OEM Audi RS6 9spokes (18x8.5), OEM Audi S-Line/Ultrasport 9spokes (18x8) or DTM's. Oettinger make a 2pc called the RZ which looks good if your car is aggressively lowered. There are plenty of other wheels out there, but I'm pretty much against anything that would detract from the classy lines of the A6. Flik's are okay, but a stretch into the ricer/kraut world. Angstrom and Sportec make some nice rims as well but are a bit racey for my taste. Stay away from the cheapo brands.

I think a good wheel size is 18x8. It will work perfectly with a lowered car as well. Make sure you examine offset and lug pattern properly.

There really aren't that many cheapo brands out there for an Audi, since they maintain really tight control on production specifications. Now I guess that companies could still make them, but can't find them here in Canada that easily.

I agree about keeping the lines of the car consistent, thats why I avoided the totally flat 5 spoke look. I wanted the rims to have some curves to them to suite the body lines. I think they will look good, I pick up my baby with her new boots tonight.

I avoided the 18" wheels, for several reasons: All things being equal, tests have show that the same performance can be achieved with the 16 or 17 or 18 inch wheels. (Buddy is a race driver, he follows these things.) 18" wheel will give a harsher ride on pavement that is pot holed or badly cracked. You increase the risk of rim damage the thinner the side wall gets if you hit a pot hole.

Now I like the wide look, and debated putting on an 8" rim, but was concerned about the tire being too close to the edge of the wheel well. As well, a wider tire has poorer gas mileage. And a quattro really does need the added traction form the wider tire. (An I don't race anyway.)

So.. it came down to balancing look vs. the other factors. For me, it was 17" x 7.5 rims then.

I think less spokes make a car look more sporty, and more spokes equals more luxury look. (Have a look in a parking lot, BMWs are great cars to rim watch on.) Little concerned my rims are gonna be more sporty that I would have liked.. but thats okay. One I do the exhaust work, some trim work and body match work, I think it will look awesome and on the luxury side of sport. I normally only buy black cars, but this one is silver, so I think i will push that.. Get the clear tail lights, and clear headlights with the white signal bulbs (until on, then they are amber) The I am going to make the fog light trim silver as well... I will post pics when I do it.. but its a work in progress.

You are correct in the performance aspect that a 17" seems to represent the best combination of factors. Sounds pretty logical on tuning a sports car, but you can pretty much throw that all out for a clunker like an A6. =) But I definitely agree on the side of potholes - lower profile tire/rim combinations are the most susceptible to pothole damage.

I don't exactly agree about more spokes = luxury and less spokes = sportiness. I think it's just a matter of preference. Toyota 4Runners are 5-spokes and aren't very sporty. Using BMW as an example like you, take a look at the M3, one of the understood "sports cars" of today's age. They run 19's, multispoke. Just about every car in the Audi model line comes with an 18" rim option, if Audi thinks they are suitable, why shouldn't we? On a large car like the A6, I recommend 18's because IMO in adequately fills out the wheel wells. I personally wear 17x8" S6 Avus rims on my car but wouldn't mind 18" ultrasport rims.

I don't agree with the cleartailights idea but to each his own.

See.. I think they'd look good on a silver car. (Make a true silver bullet.) Also thinking of a lip spoiler on the trunk.

Yeah.. I know what they mean.. I like the curve of the A6's trunk.. and generally think it doesn't need anything.. then I think.. maybe a lip spoiler. Kinda torn myself on whether to get one or not. Like to see a picture of yours. Also wonder what the lip spoiler would be like for ice and snow... not likely any differnt, but if water caught in the lip....

I know of a few people with the lip spoiler in cold snowy climates and it doesn't present any ill effects. I'm sure snow and ice would get caught in the gaps, but it shouldn't present a problem with adequate cleaning.

You could also try the M5 spoiler which if pre-bended, fits very nicely on the A6.
