Default Launch Control?

Am new here and shopping for an '08 A3 3.2. Does it have "Launch Control" whereby you can apparently press the brakeand throttle pedals together, the engine revs up to 3500rpm, and you then release the brake pedal to take off quickly? If so, do you press the throttle all the way down and it holds at 3500 rpm rather than red-lining, or do you have to set it to about 3500rpm yourself?

I think there was a thread I read on this board about DSGvs 6spd. This is one more reasonwhy I drive a 6spd - you don't have to worry about gadgetry to haul ass

Unfortunately this answer is of no help for you. I have not heard of this on the A3.

The GTI's have this, the A3's do not. Apparently each has it's own control module and the A3's module is not capable of having this feature activated. 6MT FTW

I heard that someone with a TT transplanted the GTI module to enable launch control. Do you know what module this is? Is it just a TCU, or are we talking the whole transmission?

Here's some good reading on the subject. Best and most detailed info I've found yet.

Now I'm not too sure that this is a worthwhile endeavour

Aha, so it was removed from US models.I was reading an article a couple of nights ago about LaunchControl on the A3 and there was a video clip of it in use against some other vehicles (VW, etc) but the drivers were Asian and the license plates weren't US. No matter, its not that important. As for those suggesting getting an MT. Well, if the 3.2 Quattro had an MT option it would be a slam dunk! Shame on Audi for not producing a 3.2 Quattro in the US! Or, a 2.0T Quattro.Based on test driving the three available models, my preference is the 3.2 Quattro DSG even though I've always driven manuals, mostly rear wheel drive. If the 2.0 MT was available with Quattro or RWD I would consider it. Sorry, but I just don't like FWD.
