Hello Ppl

I've just bought my A6. I need to replace the rear camshaft seal on the 2.8ltr V6.
As far as i know, i need to remove all the front end to take off the timing belt and then pull out the actual Cam Shaft. So now, how do i remove the Front end? Does anyone have pictures also?

One more question, where would be the marks located for the camshaft alignment?

And how much time would this aprx. take?

RE, TECH ARTICLE. I would not dream of changing the timming belt without the proper cam lock tools. I have them myself and will rent them out, if any one is interested

yeah good to have them. Ibought haynes manual for a4 and passat which also have V6 listed
I saw how that tool worked. to keep everything DTC that is nice tool to have.

I am not in a position to send pics. the cam lock tool is a bar that locks on both camshafts ( not the gears ) and holds them in the correct position in relation to each other. there is also a crank lok pin so the crank is also locked in position.

www.ecstuning.com (http://www.ecstuning.com) You can buy an entire timing belt repair kit with the tool if you need it. Plus the parts are much cheaper than the dealer, i just got the kit in for my 2.7T and its just as good as OEM.

What would u say about a kit that they have on ebay? there is the timing belt kit for 180$, without the seals and coolant. and the tool itself is for 100$.

You want to do the water pump and thermostat when your in there trust me. All those parts would be around 2 thousand dollars at the dealer. If $500 is too much money for parts you have no buisness driving an A6 in the first place.

I bought my timming belt overhaul kit at getcoolparts.com for under $200.00, OEM.
I bought my tools for about $135.00. I can estimate shipping from MICH. if you like.
Will rent them out for $35.00 $135.00 deposit

If you buy the parts from Blauparts.com They'll rent you the tools for 35.00 I just did the T-belt, crankseal,camseals, waterpump, valvecoverseals, 1/2moon hydraulic tensioner seals and gaskets. It took me about 8hrs. Bluaparts also gives you instructions. I also replaced my A/C compressor. You can't do the front camseals if you don't have the locking tool. The cam gears are pressed on the camshafts and once you pull them off you lose camgear to camshaft timing. In addition you need the tool to prevent rotation of the camshaft during re-torquing the camgear. Chances are the cam seals aren't bad but the hydraulic tensioner seals are. The little half-moon seals under the tensioners were shot on my car. The instructions from blau-parts state you need to pull the camshafts to change these but I was able to do it wihout pulling the cams. To change these you're gonna need tools.

yeah I read the haynes manual, and definately do water pump and thermostat, it makes the whole thing simple and easy and don't have to take it a part again to do them.

I can agree with you to that. well relatiavely cheap compare to some of other cars....
$500 is not bad at all. and if you have any mechanic skills it helps a lot on labor ;)
I've been help building trucks etc. I started to learn since I have my first car. now building those bagged trucks myself.
I get lazy and just pay for it and have it done, but since another one of my friend moved in and he is former mechanic and used to own shop, and also have nascar mechanic as friend, they can help me doing it as well. it helps to have friend..
