Default Skydiving Accident/Plane Crash

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...bplane09m.html

As most of you know I am a skydiver and I just heard about an accident that happened Sunday night up in Washington (where I am from). All 10 people aboard the plane died. Please keep the families in your prayers. I wanted to let you know that this was not a normal jump run. The plane was on it's way back from Idaho to Washington from a boogie (a huge festival for skydivers). The jumpers in the plane were not prepared to jump out (didn't have any of their gear on). Skydiving is a safe sport and this is not really related to the sport at all. I personally did not know anyone on board but some of my fellow jumpers in Spokane did. Thanks

Blue Skies Guys!

Josh

They didn't have their gears on and decided to jump out?

That sucks. I wonder what caused the crash? I hate being in a small plane. That must have been terrifying going straight down to the ground.....

For those who are not reading the article, they think the plane had icing problems. The plane that they were in was a stretched Cessna Caravan. They are prone to having icing problems. According to the weather it was 20-30 degrees at alt. and cloudy. This would cause icing. That would explain why the plane went in nose first. Also there was a hunter in the area who said he heard a small plane have engine problems.

No the jumpers did not wear their gear since it was a cross-state flight. Not a jump run. They would not have had time to put on their gear properly to get out safely. And they probably were not that high up either going over the mountains since the plane was not pressurized.
