Ok so i may be purchasing a 00 2.7T 6mt A6 with just over 100k mi on it, (timing belt just done) it's got an APR chip with the 4 options, rs4 clutch, and lightened flywheel. How would i hold up against my friend's bone stock 06 sti? From a roll? How about a dig? I'm talking about car capability because i already know i'm a better driver than he is.

my guess is that he'll take you although your torque advantage would help make it close especially with a 6 spd with rs4 clutch and light flywheel! I'd like to see it. 93oct would be closer.
His car is so much lighter!

^ true, the STI is fast but not a nice car inside, I'll take the 6 anyday for what i do, but if I was younger wit no kids and tracking or hitting dirt roads, it'd be the STI.
Straight line will be advantage STI

So we've established that i'll lose, which would be closer, a roll or a dig? I would think with the torque advantage and rs4 clutch the dig would be my advantage. And like i said the kid can't drive worth crap so that may play into it. Maybe i'll take a trip to the track and fill up on some 100 octane and run that file from the chip

I say on a roll of 60 you should take him. Look up sti vs s4 in youtube and you'll see what happens. With 2 K04's you wouldn't have a problem.

Haha i know but i'm gonna need a couple months to save up for the K04's so i was thinking maybe i'll just spend the extra 400 and get the vast dp's.

Seen the video.

And what's your point? It may be a luxury cruiser however with the same engine as the s4, and only 100lbs lighter, i see no reason why it cant run like a sports car while maintaining it's luxury cruiser status. That's half the appeal. Who would expect a 3800lb audi boat to walk an STi?

Don't have the car yet but i'll make sure to get videos. Im thinking, APR Chip (since its already installed), VAST dp's, and a DIY dual front mount system. I have 4 2.5" 90 degree mandrel bends and 4' of 2.5" straight pipe so i was thinking if i buy a bunch of intercooler coupler tube i can try to create a DIY dual front mount system for around 400 dollars. May not be perfect but it'd be better than spending 2 grand on a kit.

My point is, its not a race car, its a luxury sport car.....my point is,  stock, your car wont beat an STI, my point is,  even with all them upgrade you have, you still wont beat the STI, Oh, that S4 in the video has 340hp, not 250hp like the old S4,  so if your match the STI with and 2000-2002 S4, the STI  would still win

Your catching feeling like I'm talking about your girl or something, go put STI on her forhead and beat that.

Haha wow that's a whole lot of **** talk over nothing. I wasn't catching feeling at all just disagreeing with you. Stock, the STi would walk me. But with chip it'd be close. And with the other two mods following that it would probably pull the STi.

And that wouldnt be a half bad idea except that i'm out of fluids because i already beat on your girls forhead. Thanks for you input

Not wasting it. I'm getting the car wether or not it will beat an STi. Just considering the possibilities after upgrades. ko4's seems to be the way to go though.

Untrue. He will not DESTROY him. Why is everyone so dramatic...? Chipped the 2.7T is pushing 310 at the crank, with about 350 lb/feet. STi is 300/300. Yes, the STi is significantly lighter, but I personally think you'd have a shot if you went from a roll. The higher speed roll you start at, I'm guessing the better chances you have. From a dig, while you will have more torque than the STi, your launch still won't be too impressive because the A6 is one big, heavy mother, and if anyone here knows anything about STis/Evos is that they are launch monsters.

At high speeds, though, weight penalities are diminished and your superior torque, not to mention two more cylinders should help you keep up. A Stage II (chip + exhaust) S4 tops out at more than 170 mph (GPS verified). I don't see any reason for the A6 being much slower, and stock STi sure as hell isn't getting up that high. (not that you're racing that high, just saying)

You MIGHT nudge past him at over 100 mph, but it's highly unlikely you'll get a decisive victory EVEN from a high roll. It'll be an admirable loss though, not some sort of slaughter, blow-out, massacre like the guys here seem to want you to think, tsb.

Doubt it, big variable is the driver. I agree wit the above comment. Llke i said before, wieght  is your issue when pulling away from the line. With assuming equal drivers, he'll pull from a dig. From a roll, it'll be closer nut I still give the STI the advantage, slight though because your mid range torque will do magic :)

From 60-130 the Audi will hold its own, but it will never recover from the weight disadvantage off the line.  Just my opinion.  With that said, I would choose to drive the Audi every time.  I just would not be trying to turn it into a red light racer.

I have to agree, yes the A6 can/could be fast, but the reality is, it's still a luxury sport car, (it is what it is). If you want to race the race cars, go by a race car. Now, I'm talking stock here, The S4 in the video has stock 340hp, so what do you think the STI will do to a A6 with stock 250hp? You get a mod, he gets a mod and the outcome will be the same. Just be happy with what you got, if not get something else.

Ok. First of all, the topic clearly states that he has an APR chip (amongst other performance goodies), so he never claimed to want to race an STi with a stock A6. And not only that, but he also says the he's racing a stock STi, so the whole "you get a mod, he get's a mod" argument is a moot point. In this discussion we are talking about a chipped A6 and it's performance versus a stock STi.

That top gear video doesn't prove much. First of all, the S4 DOES catch up and passes the STi right at the end. (the Evolution is long gone) Second of all, the S4 lost MOST of its ground in the beginning half of the sprint, where the Evo and STi have a very significant weight advantage from a dead stop and are 0-60 monsters because of their ability to literally rip off the line. Low weight + high RPMs + AWD = insanely quick launch, which is where the S4 lost most of its ground.

However! (and this is a big however) if TopGear had done an acceleration test from 75-130, the outcome wouldn't have been exactly the same as it was. The S4 still might not edge out the Evolution, but the STi would have been deep fried. I mean the S4 DID catch up to and pass the STi eventually in the off the line run, which just shows that without all of the ground to make up from a launch, it would have embarassed the STi at higher speeds. This is the same situation with an A6. While it doesn't have all of the power of the V8 S4 (~310 hp vs. ~340), it's torque production is much more linear and instantly there because of the twin turbos.

So, I maintain my theory that at high speeds the A6 does have a smidgen of a chance, and even if it did lose, it would be quite a close loss.

The other thing that makes the top gear bogus is that it's a JDM STi (2.0 not 2.5) So it's not anywhere near an accurate comparison.
