Tow hitch for Q7

haidangwa -> Tow hitch for Q7 (10/20/2007 12:33:19 AM)

I have a 2007 Q7 3.6 Premium.  It is prewired for the tow hitch, but it doesn't have the tow hitch.  I think $1500 for a factory tow hitch from the dealer is a bit much.  So, I am looking at aftermarket.  In particular, Curt Manufacturing makes a class III hitch for the Q7: http://www.curtmfg.com/index.cfm?event=hitch&selectVehicleYear=2007&selectvehiclemake=AUDI&selectvehiclemodel=Q7&vehicleType=QUATTRO

The install sheet on their website seems like it's an easy job once you get the taillights and rear fascia off.  Has anyone done this type of install and give any advice; especially "gotchas" that I should avoid?  I'm somewhat of a weekend mechanic and like to work on my own cars, so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

I purchased this hitch as well and have been trying to get comprehensive instructions on the bumper disassembly. Did you have any luck with yours? Curt Mfr's instructions are incorrect. They are aware of the problem but have not been able to give me a complete set of instructions yet. I has been 1 month since I received it and it is still sitting in my garage.
Thanks

Any news on the rear bumper fascia removal?  I am trying to wire up a camera to the backup lights.  I have the cover 75% of the way off, but there is something on the top that is holding it up.

There are 4 screws on the inside of the cargo area that need to be removed.

Check out http://forums.audiworld.com/q7/msgs/26759.phtml for more details.

I used ebahn.com for the removal of rear bumper help. I just installed the hitch last night which is basically a Curt hitch (bought from U-Haul).  Now I just gotta figure out the wiring.
