Default why do people call wheels rims?

i know this is kind of a rant, but i have noticed lately alot more people are calling wheels rims, but why?

is it mis-information?
stupidity?
cultural?
learning to call stuff what they do from musice, ie whips, rims, bling bling?

i am just tired of it, in 3 or 4 of the top wheels threads, whether it be for sale section or model sections, they say rims then argue that they are right and that they will call it what they want.....also seen tires called wheels.....wtf?

[/rant]

I blame it on the music industry. Any music video you see or song you hear will not say wheel. It's always rims. Since the youth of the nation grow up with this misguidedness prior to even driving, it simply carries over into adulthood. When most people are eventually informed of their incorrect reference, they simply think that the other person is full of bull, say that it's made sense for this long, so how can it be wrong, or just reference some celebrity calling wheels rims.

lol - serouisly its just different strokes for diffrent folks.

its just slang - yes we all know they're called wheels...
but some ppl from different tuning backgrounds call them rims.
Ketchup / Catsup.

and dont blame music - does art imitate life or vise versa?

but isnt the wheel the entire thing.. when i say rims... thats exactly what i mean rims... rim + tire = wheel ... you can call each thing individually a wheel if you would like to be specific but that defeats the purpose when you are talking about a specific part

There are wheels and there are tires.

Here's the definition of rim:

A circular strip of metal forming the connection between an automobile wheel and tire, either permanently attached to or removable from the wheel.

That pisses me off about as much as when people call magazines (for guns) clips. These dumbass motherf*ckers don't even know what a clip is, and 99% have never even touched a gun before. If you don't know the terminology, you shouldn't be anywhere near it.

wow just read the definition for rim and rims.. that is stupid... butthe wheel definitionpisses me off even more... because a tire can be considered a wheel, so can the "actual wheel" and both together can be considered a wheel... the english language is way to liberal!... you guys must really dislike rap, they love saying rims and clips, and neither mean what they want to say ...

i solemnly swear i will never use the word rim again, unless its in the correct context
