Hey guys, I've got a 98 1.8T. I've had a k04 and chip for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.
I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about Audis.

What you need to do is take the engine out of the car, stand it at a 90 degree angle to the ground, start it, and let it shake all the sand out. That should do it. You might need to replace your piston rings, though.

Yup, just add water until it starts overflowing out of the oil cap /fill hole, and then youll be good. Just make sure to do a seafoam application when you get a chance. Thatll get any of the leftover sand out.

Nope - that'll take too long. Run your oil return line from the turbo into the turbine housing itself, and blast it out the back of the car. You'll get it all outta there a lot faster.

A good tip to shed some easy weightfrom your caris tojust remove the steering wheel....you dont need it, just pull that sucker off and leave it at home.

It just occured to me that the procedure wasn't flawed, but the materials were. Think about it. These cars are built in the Black Forest aren't they? He shouldn't have used good old regular sandblasting sand, he should have procured some black lava sand from Hawaii.

btw: Blinker fluid should be changed every 25,000 blinks or 6 months whichever comes first. If you're female or over sixty, 25000 blinks comes around really fast. If you live in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, California or Texas, you don't care if your blinker works so don't worry about it. You can get one of those cute blinker logs at truck stops.

Oh and, make sure you buy 2 bearings if you have dual exhaust. Hate having to go back to the store for the other one. Audi bearings are better than the Chinese aftermarket ones, but everyone seems to think it's a damn joke when you're looking for them. I finally got an Audi parts manager to give me the official part number for them. It's 3.

Haha so I'm on the phone with Scott from USRT today ordering my stage 2 methanol injection kit and we are bullshitting for a little bit about how stupid some people are when it comes to modding cars and being cheap. I'm telling him about the idiot who tried to port and polish his exhaust by sucking sand through his engine...http://www.audizine.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif He says hes got a good one for me so I say let me hear it...he goes on about saying how some guy wanted to run meth injection but thought the kit was overpriced so he was gonna look elsewhere for one because he thought he can make one himself for way cheaper. Next week the same clown calls back complaining how his meth injection kit fucked up his car. Scott asks him what he did and he says that his car wouldn't start anymore and ran horrible after his "methanol Injection" he later goes onto to tell Scott that his idea of meth injection was to pour 2 gallons of boost juice (50/50 water meth mix) into his gas tank and drive the car. As I started reading the first post I said, maan I want to port my head too.

so without finishing reading the first post I went to Loewe's and bought sand, only they had none left so I went with coarse-grain cement.

It didnt work at porting my head and the negine started choking (maybe I shouldve left the filter IN?) so I read through the rest of this thread and someone said flush with water...

There is an easy fix for this. The sand has created to much flow in the exaust system, thus reducing your back pressure. Kaleco Auto sells an O-pipe that is a direct bolt-on, which is guaranteed to increase back pressure by at least one hundred percent. That should help.

OK, this is serious, but nothing can't be fixed. First, jack ur car up, and let go of all ur engine oil (which should fill w/ sand by now), and replace a new oil filter. When it's done, inject new engine oil (engine oil for summer) into ur engine, and turn on ur engine, let it run for awhile. Then turn it off, and repeat the previous steps but this time, use a external filter to filter your new-add engine oil, then put the engine oil back into ur engine. It ain't cool, but it should get better.

Now, let's look at what went wrong w/ ur mod. Two things went wrong basically: 1) u gotta understand that there're some differences between Honda's VTEC and ur A4's turbo, things that might work for ur fd's Honda might not work on ur A4; 2) wht we use to polish the engine is different from ordinary garden sand, u might actually bought the wrong one as well.

Alright, now let's do it in the correct way. First, go to beach, and collect the sand from there (not white sand, black or dark sand is better cos' they are smaller and harder), wash it clean and dry it under the sun. Then buy 3 bottles of "high octane booster" add it into ur gas tank (u need ur engine running at 120% to make sure u flush out all that sand, otherwise u will be in deep shit). U also need to buy a can of Coke (buy regular one; diet Coke and Coke Zero is a NONO) and add it into ur engine (it'll help desolving and polishing process).

Hook that bag of sand u collected earlier from the beach with ur intake and turn on ur engine, let it ideal for few minutes, then kick the gas all the way in for 1 minutes (but keep the rpm below the redline), then ideal for few minutes again. Repeat that steps until you hear no weird noise. Btw, 25 ponds of sand is too much (it's too much for A4 and it's too much for Honda, tell your friend that), 5~8 ponds of sand is good enough!

However, if u continue hearing that weird noise, add the "octane booster" directly into ur engine and mix it with engine oil. Then repeat the prvious steps, that should do the trick!

as for the guns, 3100 feet per second muzzle velocity, but not a heavy round. I'll let you calculate it out, it'll probably go way more than 400yards before the bullet starts to tumble, but you have no accuracy at that range, so i keep the numbers conservative. ; )

I have a Audi A4 01 the 1.8 and for some reason when i try to drive it the car just jerks and i changed the ignition coils and spark plugs and now it only stops running and jerks after 5000 rpms but i need to find out what it is.... i know its a random miss fire but if any of you know exactly what can be causing this help please!!
