Default button on gear selector partially stuck, please help!

Oohs, seems all my new used cars have several minor problems in the first month of my ownership, including my this new 2000 A6 2.7t, 5AT with tiptronic.

The button on the gear selector (the small, white button on the left of the selector which should be pushed down in order to shift out from park) is partially stuck inside when the gear is in park. The problem prevents the key from turning all the way to the off position and the key is stuck in ignition. The dash does show the selector is in park. It appears that in all other positions the button is all the way out. To remove the key, I have to wiggle the button a little bit and pull it out. Same problem as this thread: http://www.audiforums.com/m_190023/tm.htm

So please help me solve this problem. Should I lube the button a little bit? What lube should I use? Will WD-40 damage anything? Do you think will WD-40 help? Thank you very much!

Default RE: button on gear selector partially stuck, please help!

Try pushing the shifter upper or down. Maybe the shifter isnt seated properly causing the button to stick.
