I haven't gotten a chance to read all threw the post but. I own a 2000 A6 with tons of mods and a 2003 S8 that is stock....I bought the 2000 to mod and work with..As for the S8 I will do small work but if it gets to involved I take it to my qualified friends...Mind you I am older than most on here. But in the end if you don't enjoy working on your car but you like learning about your car this and other places are a great place to go...on average the people we learn most from is the crowd that work on there cars..and adversily we see people that don't work on there cars give the most greef (obviously not all) in the end this is a place to share info not to force one to think they are less for either working or choosing to not work on there car....in the end I enjoy working on my car so I do it because I like to. There are others that can't afford to pay so they do. in the end It is nice to be able to let some one else do all the work so you have less of the worry.....all in all work don't work an enthusiast is both

Just my 2$

There are a few things that I would not tackle just because it isn't worth the bother. But I seldom let special tools get in the way of a few weeks of fun, bloody knuckles, and grease under my fingernails. (the knuckles and grease are badges of honor- and knowing that I did it gives me great satisfaction)

Scurrying around for parts, and trying to figure out why the Germans put so many screws in a cover or even where they are is part of the challange. Just getting all the instrument pannel lights working can be a lot of fun and sucessfully tackling a brake job is a thrill. (part of the brake job thrill is doing 4 rotors and 4 calipers for about what a dealer would charge for replacing the pads and rotors on one axel)
