Default Which engine oil your dealer recommends?

My dealer told me that they put Castrol Syntec 5W40 in 2.7T, as it is recommended by Audi. However, I am looking for another option like Mobil... Just wanted to know does your dealer recommends/fills the same?? I have to know if they are making it up, or it really is recommended by Audi.

Owner's manual for oil has been superseded byTechnical Bulletin Group 17 number 06-01dated July 25, 2006 due to updated engine oil table. Oil chart may be obtained at audiusa.com. See for yourself, virtually the only grade recommended is 5w40. http://www.audiusa.com/etc/medialib/....0011.File.pdf (the url for the pdf document you want to see)

As per drain intervals of 15k km I'd go with something more convincing.
Would not keep Castrol for 15k
Dealers sell stuff they have the best profit on!

Liqui Moly Synthoil High Tech (Germany).

That may be OK as long as its on the list. If you want the best oil get the VW 505 01 spec oils. They are mandatory for the S & RS versios of our
audis as well as many Porsche engines. I think they are listed on the above mentioned list.

Cheers!

This sucks. I have been to five Auto shops, including 3 AutoZones here in DC area. The "Amigos" have not even heard of Syntec 5w/40. All they can recommend is Syntec Blend. I have to do some better research about Auto shops in my area.

AutoZones in my area (minneapolis) no longer carry it. I have not called every store, but a few of them told me that so I gave up looking. The dealer here uses Castrol and I use M1.

Look at or bring the list to the parts store and surely you can find a match on the list with what they sell. For example mobil1 0w40 & 5W40are on the list. Castrol 505 01 5w40 also on the list and mandatory for Audi S & RS models as wellas many Porsches is readily available at your VW dealer. Go for it.

Thanks. I will pick couple of qrts tomorrow, from my dealer. Funny, I meta guy at the dealership, he was there to get the estimate for engine overhaul, and when I asked what does he put in the engine, he answered the cheapest one available from Walmart. He sounded quiet confidant when he told me that there is no difference in oils grades, just marketing hypes. I couldn't help smiling, thinking some people just don't get it.
