Oh, well, maybe works too hard, lol. I can operate all windwos in driver seat. Rear windows are deactivated and the satefy switch indicates that. I can hold down the safety switch to allow operating the windows in rear seats. But as soon as the safety switch is released, the rear windows are again deactivated. Something wrong with how I operate the safety switch or the safety switch is bad? If the latter, anybody has any idea how to fix it? Thank you very much!

It's in this way. Push it down and hold it there, the rear windows can be operate in rear seats. As soon as the safety switch is released, the rear windows cannot be operate in rear seats

The switch is bad.  You should be able to push it once to activate the rear windows.  A second push should deactivate them.  The light in the switch should go on and off to verify this.

Mine does the same thing and another guy with an A6 that I know is having the same problem.  I'm going to have to buy a new switch.  I'm wondering how much it's gonna be?  Hopefully an easy replacement?

If you guys have a bad switch you can hold down the rear lock out button and the rear switches should work, once you let go of the master lock out button the rear switches won't work again. Well at least until you replace the switch.

Had the same problem on my '01 A6, took the switch out/ apart. A small piece was broken off, so the switch would not stay down. Had a new oem switch shipped from HK , about $ 35, easy to install. Now it works like a charm.

That's pretty much how it goes except there's usually some complaining first.
